We file her under folk-rock, but Sandy was a soul-stirring songstress of the highest order no matter what she was singing, be it her own beguiling songs or her transfixing twists on ones penned by Richard Thompson, Bob Dylan, Richard FariƱa and more. Together with her Fairport Convention LPs, these 1971-77 recordings built her legend: "The North Star Grassman and the Ravens," "Sandy," "Like an Old Fashioned Waltz," "Rendezvous" and "Gold Dust: Live at the Royalty (The Final Concert)." She haunts with "Blackwaterside," "I Wish I Was a Fool for You," "Gold Dust," "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?," "The Quiet Joys of Brotherhood," "At the End of the Day," "Full Moon" and more. Well worth the price.
A wonderful collection of great folk music by a legendary singer at a very reasonable price. I bought this collection despite having a number of these tracks on other media. Tape, vinyl and digital.to supplement my collection. Great stuff!

The Legend Lives On
A choice which I am well pleased with.regrettably I already had copies of three of the albums, so I didn't get full value for my $, but I am not unhappy about the duplication. The two 'new' ones are te live album and Sandy's solo album and these are very different from the other three (studio) albums. Live albums are always different and this one displays her talent and that of her backing band, singing familiar material, but 'Rendezvous' is quite startling. The choice of material is very different, including Elton John's 'Candle in the Wind' and suggests a new direction which she was planning. Sadly the pure tones found on her earlier albums ( and with Fairport and Fotheringay) is lacking - booze and cigarettes? - but she still displays a fine tone and excellent control of her material. She sings with conviction. It is strange to reflect how prophetic the choice of 'Candle' was - she was dead at the age of 31 within 2 years of recording it.She was a well respected artist in the 1960's and 70's but only reached 'legend' status at the millenium, including "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?" receiving BBC Radio 2's 2007 Folk Award for "Favourite Folk Track of All Time.". The legend never died.A fine overview of her solo/ stage work and well worth the price.

What excellent value for the work of a genius!
This is a fantastic collection of the late great Sandy Denny's exceptional solo albums as well as the recording of her final live swansong. For the price it's a bargain to own the music of one of the most astonishing singer/songwriters Britain will ever produce.

The CD`s in this album are great except for one
The CD`s in this album are great except for one. "Gold Dust" All the other CD`s are recorded in a sound studio and are great. Her voice gives each song she sings that distinctive personal touch that only Sandy can give. Alas Gold Dust was recorded live and the result is not very good at all. If you are a Sandy Denny Fan then you would probably accept the quality but I could not. In places its muffled and I think it was recorded with the mic somewhere in the audience or at the back. I wanted this cd specifically for the song "Who knows where the time goes" I have heard it on the radio and its dramatic, haunting and just great but its been assassinated on this recording. I will have to look for this song on a better CD then the one I have. I have given the album 3 stars because of the other cd`s but had I bought Gold Dust on its only it would just receive one star.
