My husband is REALLY into calligraphy. He hasn’t had a good set of supplies in years. So when I saw this, I grabbed it. And since he is the expert, not me, I could only hope that hey were of good value. He seems to like this a lot. Says it’s just the right size as most out there, according to him, are way too large for the craft. It’s very nice looking in my opinion.

the metal parts feel cheap but it does serve its intended function

This ink is BLACK! I mean black, black. I am always on the lookout for true black ink and I always get some kind of purpley, or greyish, even blueish black. This is a great and perfectly true BLANK ink. I definitely recommend this. Also, it's so freaking pretty sitting there in the little holder!

I mostly wanted this inkwell and stand for that purpose and not the ink, I am very picky with my inks since I use them for art and suspected it wouldn't be up to my standards, but I had a powerful need for the inkwell! And I have no regrets, it is well made and the stand fits my dip pen perfectly, I especially like how sturdy the stopper is to keep the ink from drying out, my last inkwell was very old and didn't have one so my expensive ink liked to slowly vanish.The ink itself is fine, it isn't waterproof, so it is good for ink washes or writing, but not underdrawing, I like that they clearly used a blended pigment so that it doesn't look flat black from something like PBk1, but looks like a 'neutral tone' paint, it is going to make some nice washes, so I will be decanting it into another jar!

This is a beautiful calligraphy ink set. The ornate detailing on the cap, pen holder, and base make this a lovely addition to any desk. The pen holder is deep enough to keep the pen in place and wide enough for my daughter's nibs to fit well. The jar can be removed from the base to make it more portable when needed or to change the side of the pen holder.The ink is good quality, though it's worth noting that it sets instantly. Calligraphy ink is permanent, of course, but most of what I've used previously comes off if washed immediately, especially from skin, but this ink doesn't. When I removed the silicone stopper beneath the cap, it splattered. A spot landed on a cutting board behind it, which I wasn't able to remove or even smudge when I made an immediate attempt to clean it. Additionally, the ink that sprayed on my hand and got on my fingertips didn't come off, even with soap. We'll need to be more careful when using this one to avoid accidentally staining something.My only complaint is that, while the metal-looking components look nice everywhere they're visible, the areas that are hidden leave me questioning the quality and longevity of the set. The bottom and inside of my base suffer from bubbling, which makes me concerned about peeling. Time will tell, but either way, it doesn't look good and makes me hesitant to recommend this as a gift.

This is a disappointing set if the main buying point was the stand and cap. Both are made very poorly and have dips, gouges, and bubbles in the finish. There is no information that tells you what kind of ink is in the bottle or how to use it. Considering I got the set with the tip-pen holder, I assumed it may be an India ink and it has some India ink qualities (bit chalky, matt when dry) but is not waterproof. I inked a cheap pen to test it in and it seems to write well without being to wet. I think the price point isn't too bad if you get the full set, but the ink isn't anything special and for the amount you get, you could invest the money into a better-quality ink. I'd recommend this for lettering practice and doodling but would suggest not using it in fine pens.I’d also like to note that without any company info on or in the box (the box was plain with a sticker indicating the product) the guarantee becomes useless, so don’t buy it if you are hopping they will fulfill that.

(See pics)The sticker on the ink bottle that says "INK" in gold script is kinda cute, but if you want to, you can pull it off very easily and cleanly. The sticker is only on one side, so if you're not sure, you can just turn the bottle around - it's not attached to the base.My dip pen is an E+M Marble Nib Holder from JetPens, holding a Kakimori stainless steel nib.

I have a family member who enjoys calligraphy, and this is a just because gift. I'm sure they will be very happy with it. Feels solid and not cheap.
