A remarkably good lens for the price
This lens is remarkably good for the price, which is true for many Tamron lenses. Image stabilisation is good enough to allow hand-held shooting most of the time and it is comparatively light in weight, which is a real bonus. The image quality is excellent. I have used it mostly for insect and bird photography and I've been pleased with the results. For insects, which are small subjects, I prefer to use it on a monopod.My only real criticism is that the autofocus does struggle sometimes, which is frustrating when you are photographing (opportunistically) subjects which don't remain still for very long. Having said that, I've also had this problem with more expensive telephoto lenses. This is less of a problem if you have time to set up and wait.
