Great concept, poor execution.
Great concept, engineering lacking to provide functionality it claims. Does not solve duplicated photos. Photos not backing up automatically from phone. Manually will load two photos and then freeze. Not impressed at all. Lots of claimed not being met.

Easy Install and works as expected
I copied all my 24k photos to the drive and attached to the monument. Monument processed all my photos and analyzing them. Still the process in progress. Further it need to recognize the people. This is a time taking one. As I have large collection of photos, I am expecting couple of days for this process to complete.During the initial setup, monument updated the software. Blue light is blinking for long time. As per manual action required by user in app. But app says updating software. After I close the app and restart everything started working fine.

WiFi connection to recognize the product
I purchased this product because it was advertised as easy to use. I haven’t been able to connect it to WiFi, I bought two hard drives it doesn’t recognize them, if I can’t get it connected, I wast to return it.

Works slowly, very basic app.
I was originally excited to test this "personal cloud" device. As I am a software engineer who also takes a lot of photos; I have a NAS at home that I use to process all my computers backups and backup my photos...I figured to have a in-home automatic backup system for my photos from our phones would be cool. I set this system up and even spent time to clear out an external 2TB HDD so I could use it as the "base hard drive" for this unit. However this system is not really ready for prime time with the app bugs and slow processing speeds. When I first opened the app (it is a very basic app) it asked me to find the Monument and then put in the details for the wifi. After this point in time it went into an automatic updating mode and said I needed to plug it into a display (it already was). I saw a screen about it updating the firmware. After updating the firmware the screen shows nothing at any point in time.According to the app it has different output modes but I can't seem to get it to switch from 1080p.I just left it for 20 hours and still there is no response. I thought the unit was broken; unplugged it and plugged it back in and the same thing. I had to CLEAR CACHE & DATA for the app, only then did the app let me "login to my monument" again and now it works.I downloaded the Monument desktop app and it works reasonably well despite being in beta. The biggest gripe is how slow this device is; it processes one photo per 2-20 seconds..... it will take days to process all my photos at this rate. The fact that it only supported an older 2.4Ghz wifi and its first boot took almost 2 minutes leads me to believe that they really cheaped out on the SOC/CPU in this thing. They really need to fix the app issues and improve usability to have this device ready for prime time. They need at least a 2x faster CPU and 5Ghz WiFi (or at least 4x faster WiFi for 2.4Ghz). Right now the uploading and processing speeds are in the kilobits per second range rather than megabits per second. Its 2020 and images are large and people take lots of them.I feel like this device is more for older people who don't really understand cloud backups or don't want to pay for them. Unfortunately the issues with the app prevent people like that from making this device work (hence the other bad reviews). I myself was about to give up on it as I was writing this review; and decided to do everything in my power to try to make this device work before panning it unfairly. All in all it does actually work; its just slow to process and the app is just too simple. However the price is quite low for what you get; and this makes it cheaper than most other devices while allowing you to use your own drives. If I have any issues with it after the next week when it finishes processing my files; I will update the review further. As it stands now I leave the review as is.If this review helped you at all (or saved you money); please mark it helpful! Thanks!

Cumbersome setup
I'm not sure who the target market is for this. It requires a level of technical sophistication and interest such that the person who can use this is the same person who doesn't need a hardware solution for this.Setup was really cumbersome -- it wouldn't pair with my phone because the hard drive was plugged in; it supports (basically requires) HDMI out but it displays absolutely no useful information on the screen. Then I needed to update the firmware, which caused the app to get stuck. I couldn't proceed because the app said I didn't finish setup. I couldn't finish setup because the app wouldn't go past "updating firmware." And I couldn't set it up as a new device because it said it was already active. In the end, I had to delete the app from my phone, do a factory reset from the website (there's a PC app, but it only works after you set everything up via your smartphone), and then set it up again as a new device, but update the firmware manually with a USB stick.Once I got it all set up, it worked alright. It's kind of slow, but it's not terrible, and it's fairly automatic.I have no idea why they released a WiFi-only version that ONLY supports 2.4GHz networks. Similarly, the USB ports are USB 2.0. It's the technology of yesteryear. But if you get it for cheap and you need something that does exactly this (because you don't want to set up any of your own infrastructure), it's not terrible.

Terrible product, dont buy it
Monument just doesn't work. After many attempts to connect with my Samsung S8, I upgraded the Monument firmware, then downloaded Beta app. Finally it found my bluetooth, but then failed to connect to my wifi 2.4 htz. Monument said maybe wifi is weak but it's not. They told me to reset router, but still doesn't work. The same day I connected Nest smoke detector to wifi, it was a breeze. TMonument should never be released to the market. After reading similar bad reviews I have given up, wasting $149.

well..
I have tried and tried to get this thing to work and I am at a loss for the next thing to try. It turns on and seems to function but it is not downloading my photos or doing anything it is supposed to. If I can get it up and running I will come back and update but for now there is something wrong with this system.*Thank you for taking the time to read my review and if it helped you make an informed decision either way about this product please let me know by taking a quick moment of your time to vote it Helpful so I can keep track of my most helpful reviews. I hope you have a wonderful shopping experience!*

Be careful, this device is single user only
Monument advertises that their Monument 1 device supports up to 5 users, BUT BEWARE the WiFi only model is only for a single user. It is very unclear that there are different models, I bought this one expecting to set it up for 2 users and only found out that it couldn't be done when completing the setup. Friends with VERY SIMILAR looking device with the Ethernet plug did not know that there were different models and recommended this one. I am trying to arrange a return and exchange with the Seller.
