The 1964 Flood of Humboldt and Del Norte (Images of America)

disappointed .
Usually I really like Arcadia books. I have many. But this book was very disappointing, because it spent way more time talking about family names in Humbolt, particularly Eureka, and far less details on the actual flood occurrence. It would be ok for long time residents of that area who want all the names mentioned, but then it should not be sold as a history of the flood because it spends far more time talking about families and in particular prominent families and what they did for a living and what businesses they owned. I am familiar with this flood as I live just one county south of Humbolt, so I know how much is left out of this book. A lot.

Beware the rivers!
Like others of its kind, this is basically a picture book with educational captions. This particular book seemed a little more fragmented and under-informative than others of its kind, but for a reader just becoming acquainted with the region's history, there is plenty of interesting material to absorb.

Quck Destruction, Quck Recovery
Very thorough coverage of the flood of 1964. Includes many photos I had never seen before. I grew up in Humboldt County and drove up Highway 101 to Eureka a few weeks after it was reopened, but did not realize there was so much destruction off the highway.

Wonderful bit of local history.
I would recommend this book it anyone interested in Humboldt County, CA history. It was many photos from the 1964 flood that I had not seen before, and it primarily focuses on the Eel River Valley area,

This is a wall documented book. I've lived in Humboldt County all of my life and I was here during the 1955 and 1964 floods. And this book is very accurage.
