The New Method for Afro-Cuban Drumming

Just bought this book after seeing Jimmy @ Mambo's Cafe in LA, CA with David Garfield and John Peña. Here's a tip: GO SEE JIMMY BRANLEY PLAY "LIVE"!!! I'm hoping this book will help me peer into his approach. However, he grew up in the sauce and situations of Cuba. For this, I realize, there is no substitute. The book's progress is very gradual and logical. The played examples Groove HARD, too !!!

As a professional drummer, Afro-Cuban drumming is probably my weakest link. While I was not brought up in that musical environment, I thoroughly enjoy this style of music. I have a tremendous respect for those who have this style under their belt. Jimmy Branly did his homework when writing this book. Simply put, a variety of different Afro Cuban patterns accompanied by a few tracks minus drums that you can practice the grooves to. Well written and easy to understand. If you're looking to embark on Afro-Cuban drumming I would highly recommend this book. You can thank me later.

Here is one hell of a study. The approach is excellent. have learned so much from this great book. The information and study material are presented in a such an easy to study format. The CD is most comprehensive. Love this package.

I really like how the CD plays every single excercise on that book, and that is relly helpful with some complicated grooves... specially one of the cha cha cha, if it was not because of the CD I would have get lost, so CD is really helpful... and the excercises are awesome! I think this book is for intermediate-advanced! Not for beginners!
