Memorable and enjoyable songs for learning French
Original music that doesn't make you cringe - really varied and enjoyable - like music you'd choose to listen to! But catchy enough to be make the language memorable. The topics and language covered are perfect for early learners of French. I'm using the songs with my 9 year old on car journeys - in 2 months, he can say numbers to 100, the alphabet, body parts, some food items + how to ask for them, family, age, where he lives, basic objects, directions. The grammar and phrases around the vocabulary enables him to actually communicate and adds a little extra challenge. It's easy to learn just from listening (if someone, e.g. parent, is able to explain what the words mean). On the CD, you get the song followed by a backing track, so you can practise with the singers and then challenge yourself to remember the song with the backing track only. I think it's an excellent purchase and would recommend to parents and language teachers on the basis of the wonderful CD alone. There is good support in the book too, with lesson plans, follow-up ideas and photocopiable song words providing written back-up for each song and sheet music. Probably most suitable for 7-13 year olds.

Bringing music to the classroom
For my last placement before I qualified I was informed that I would have to teach French. Having completed a German GCSE previously, my confidence in teaching the language was low however I wanted to make it enjoyable. I found and bought this fantastic resource to use in year 3 from Amazon and have not regretted it. It brought out children's confidence not only in speaking French but talking to the class in general. Singing became a regular occurance in the classroom. Even when not teaching French the children asked if we could practice the songs. This is the first time I have ever written a review however it is because this is a fantastic product to recommend. It has given me confidence to introduce the French language to primary school children and make it fun and enjoyable with the introduction of songs to reiterate key vocabulary such as greetings, numbers and months of the year.

Best teaching resource I have bought
I absolutely love this book. The songs cover all the most useful topics and at an appropriate level of difficulty. The CD has both a sung track and a backing track of each song. The songs are fun to sing and the children enjoy them. I have been working my way through it with year 3/4 but would also be good for other age groups.

I have used this book for the last 6 years within the primary classroom. It is highly recommended as it is organised by topic so you can link in with whatever specific thing you are teaching. Most other French CDs I have bought, contain lots of difficult vocabulary which makes it harder for the children to learn. These songs are simple but effective and are learned quickly. It is well produced and the songs are catchy which the children enjoy.

Helpful for those who never thought french
Maybe I was expecting too much I don't know!? I teach French to 7 to 12 years old children and this book/CD isn't what I was hoping for. The songs are not a bit Jazzy or rockn'roll. Even the raps are boring. I have to admit the fact that you can photocopy the songs and that each songs is followed by the music on its own is very handy. Especially if you are planning on doing a little concert with your pupils. But truly, if you have already materials for teaching French this isn't for you, however if you are only starting you might find it helpful.
