I have used a gas detector in my home for over 15 years. We have a gas cooktop, cloths dryer, water heater and two sets of gas logs all run on propane (LPG). The detectors I have used in the past have all been the same brand and model. The first lasted about 5 years before giving false alarms (I have a handheld detector for reference), Replaced it with another one that lasted about 4 years and at least two others replaced after that that lasted for even less time. If there had actually been propane present in the air then the replacements and my handheld would have immediately alerted. So I'm changing to another brand that so far seems to be working fine having tested it with a small amount of propane from a propane torch. It immediately alerted, showed the level and stopped the alert after the level dropped slowly to zero as the propane dissipated. The alarm level is definitely loud enough to get your attention but not so loud that you have to cover your ears like some smoke detectors. And being a varying tone similar to the old police siren sound rather than a steady piercing tone it doesn't make you jump out of your seat from fright when it goes off.

I got this for my personal home because we have a lot of gas appliances in our home and we don’t want a gas leak going unnoticed. The installation process was a 6/10. I had to drill holes in my wall for the mount. It does not have an internal battery so it has to stay plugged in 100% of the time.The reason i am rating it so low is because it gets triggered with cleaning supplies, I don’t think I feel comfortable putting my life on the line if it can’t tell the difference between gas and cleaning supplies.

It's very important to note that this meter measures differences and not absolute levels of gas. If you turn it on in an environment that already has gas present, it'll consider that the baseline/0.That said, this is USB powered, so you could connect it to a battery outside, in fresh air, and then take it inside once it's calibrated itself to zero. I would argue you should leave this on a USB powerbank so that it will continue to run if there is a power outage, there is no internal battery, USB power only. It looks like there are provisions in the case design for a battery, and terminals on the circuit board, but this model doesn't have those populated.I haven't caused mine to alert, so I can't say how well that function works.

The gas detector is easy to install with adhesive or a nail. I used an adhesive that I already had on hand. We still have a gas stove and we already have a carbon monoxide detector. I figured that you can never be too safe. You must install it close to the source. When I put it in the living room it did not pick up on any gas. Once I installed it in the kitchen it started to register. It's easy to understand and the instructions will tell you how far to install the detector from the ceiling. Having this device has put me more at ease. There is so much to worry about these days and I would hate to get sick or die from too much gas in the air.

Very nice looking, very simple to get running and hang. So far it seems to be operating correctly, so it works for me!
