First, I want to say that this system is only collars and a remote. There is no invisible fence. That is a different product completely. This is a tool that you control using a remote where you can send the collar a signal/sound, a vibration or a light electric shock. Nothing will operate the features of the collar but the remote control. This particular collar system does not have automatic operations for barking like some collars. The range is the distance recommended between the collar and the remote in order to provide the highest degree of confidence in operation. It does not mean the collar will signal automatically when the dog reaches the range limit.Now, the review: This electric collar dog training system is fantastic. 5 Stars! The remote control is very easy to understand and works perfectly every time. The collars can be worn for 12-hours according to the instructions, but the battery does last longer. I have 2 German Shorthair Pointer puppies, which are bound to be testing the limits of battery life considering how often the collars have to be used. The range is great. I have the dogs running on 2 - 5 acres and have never had an issue with the signal even with some areas with trees as obstacles, which the instructions warn are likely to interfere with the signal. The remote has always communicated with the collars whether for signal, vibration or shock. The collars are charged overnight and put on the dogs in the morning. Don't forget to turn the collars On though. The collars are not automatically On. They have a power switch and they turn themselves Off when being charged. The remote control can go several days between charges. When putting the posts on the collar, I highly recommend using the tool that comes in the package to tighten down the posts, especially if you have super high-energy dogs like mine! Since I have a brother/sister pair, they constantly pull on each other's collars so the rubber tips are temporary for us. Just a fact. Much like garden hoses and pool toys, they just won't last long around these 2 wild animals, I mean puppies. The collars are very durable and are, in fact, water resistant as advertised. This breed is a water dog so that was an important feature and happily, it works perfectly, as we've tested them several times in the duck pond! This training system is a great deal, especially when compared with paying for training classes. I will have to get replacement parts for them from time to time, but the parts are extremely affordable and easy to find so that's no problem at all. The dogs get the hang of the system quickly and they are smart enough to alter their behavior appropriately. This is an excellent tool. Consistency is key.

We had some oops puppies last year (3 of them) and one of the pups who is now full grown has figured out that he is could hop our 6 foot fence. Not fun to have to chase him around to get him back in. No matter what we did, he would still hop that fnce, so we figured we would try this training system and see if we could get him to stop. This training system has been an absolute god send. I have only had to use the shock option once which was when we first started. Now, the sound and sometimes the vibrate option is enough to stop him in his tracks. I'm hoping soon to not hve to use the system at all as he learns to just stay in the fenced area of the yard. In anycase, we charge the collar and handset overnight and put it on him in the morning before we let the dogs out. The collar stays charged all day so we havent had to worry about it not working. I have let them out in a heavy rain and had no issues with the collar then either. With all of the different setting levels and ways to use this item, I highly recommnd it for training your pups!
