It worked
The original backing plate called it quits (white part clumping off) after years and this fixed my issue.

replacement
had to do it to keep using the buffer, I did take time and clean off the original pad and using 3M outside double sided tape re did the original one so I now have a spare, this was a little pricey but I got it fast no one it town stocked it.

Seems to have a loose fit
I installed the replacement backing plate correctly, but seems to not fit very snug and has a lot of play.
