The do-it-yourself raw steel, unfinished sign is intended to be painted once you receive it. It is coated with an oily film to prevent rust during transit. While we use brand new steel and use rust preventative measures on the mild steel, your raw steel sign can develop slight surface rusting during shipment to your location. This is most likely during transits in high humidity and/or the package being delivered in the rain. Any light surface rust is easily removed by lightly sanding or scuffing with a green scrubbing pad before painting or display. We recommend lacquer based paint thinner, acetone, automotive brake cleaner or solvent based wax & grease remover to clean the oily film off of the sign before painting. Sanding with a 220 grit or finer sand paper or using a green scrubbing pad to scuff the surface of the metal will greatly enhance paint adhesion. Spray paint with primer is an easy coating for this type of sign. We do not recommend water-based paint on raw steel products as it can cause rust instead of preventing it. Always paint the back side first, so that the front will not be placed down after painting. Naturally rusted signs are intended as on outdoor only item. Naturally rusted signs are cut from real, natural steel. Irregular colors are to be expected, and with time outdoors the entire item will turn a golden rusty brown. Rusted steel can stain fabrics and leave residue on your hands. Please be aware that the item may have sharp edges. Gardening gloves are recommended. The naturally rusted finish is not intended as an indoor product. All color choices are covered in a durable powder coated finish. Ready to install and safe to display indoors or out! Signs can be hung with commercial grade double-sided tape, Command strips, or you can use small finish nails through the openings in letters. Very cute!
I love these! Bought three of them to make a wooden sign for above my kitchen cupboards. I used them as is and only wiped the greasy film off of them, which came off easily. I just added a little gorilla glue to the backs to attach them to the wood. They shipped very quickly. Highly recommend to anyone who is thinking of purchasing them!

Expect marks and scratches
Ordered two of the signs in difference sizes. One is ok with a light scratch. The other has deep grooves/marks. Asked about returning the second one. It will cost self shipping plus 15% restocking fee.

Love it!
I live by these words and was happy to find them at a great price. I painted them bronze and added some white wall flowers and hung them up in my office. Only downside is there is you have to figure out the hanging part since there is no hook on the back. I used nails that I spray painted with the same paint I used on the word.

Nice quality!
I painted the sign and used above my daughter's bed. It turned out very cute! I am considering adding a hook or hanger, but included a photo of the current look for reference.

Just what my nursery library needed!
This is perfect! I was worried to buy it since there are no reviews but it arrived quickly, just as pictured and in perfect shape. It’s heavy so mounting will be interesting but that's okay. I spray painted it gold to match the theme of my sons nursery and it came out perfect! I was going to buy a wooden one off Etsy that was twice the price but I’m so glad i got this instead :) great buy!

Subtly beautiful
This is beautiful. It's fairly heavy steel with a very cool distressed look. It changes tone with the lighting during the day and evening. I'm extremely picky about the aesthetics of our bedroom and it blends in beautifully. What a lovely reminder when I'm sitting in my favorite chair.
