8 Inch Removable Roof Vent Cap, 430 Stainless Steel Roof Vents for Houses, 8 Inch Exhaust Vent for Ventilation System-with Damper, Rainproof and Snowproof(Black)

I've installed various vent caps over the last 40 or more years. And most last for decades, although when replacing a roof I tend to replace everything sticking up through the roof, as well as all flashing. Now the normal thickness of flashing I use is 26 gauge, which pairs nicely with a 35-year roof. Many builders try to save a few bucks by using a thinner 28 gauge, or thinner.That is where this vent cap stands out. The cap is substantial and the metal is thick. What I find interesting is that they claim they used 28 gauge steel, yet the paint coat is not exceptionally thick, and still it clearly is thicker steel than my 26-gauge flashing. I'm not quite sure how to figure that one out. I'm more than pleased with the gauge of the steel on this. Far thicker than others I have successfully used.The damper flap sits nicely over the opening and very little air can pass via backflow. It does come with a rodent screen, but like virtually all of these caps, wasps will be able to make it through the screen and build their nests. Just a fact of life, unless you put a finer screen over this one, and then it might interfere with the damper or reduce airflow.The one thing I have a problem with, as has been pointed out in other reviews, is the height of the lip that top section is attached to. In the past most of the caps I have used have been one-piece in this respect. However, now it seems everyone is making two-piece. And here I will say the screws are pretty substantial and provide a nice, tight fit. And even the little screwdriver (included) fits the screws very well and has two flattened sides that make it very easy to grip.Now back to the flange. It has some of the smallest spot welds I've ever seen holding it on. And I know metal has become expensive, but a 1/2" lip seems a little short in my opinion. I'd have made it 3/4-1" in height. However, the fact is it is very solid once the four screws (included) are installed and tightened. And seeing as how I really have no intention of ever opening this up again I will be running a bead of caulking around the inside edge of the top portion prior to reinstalling it. I just need to finish nailing down the rest of the roofing first.I also should mention we have received some pretty solid rainshowers since installation, and there is absolutely no sign of any moisture making it past that flange. So perhaps the design engineers actually did know what they were doing. I like the cap, and in current market conditions found it to be reasonably priced. So I almost gave it five stars - maybe 4.7 at this point in time.

Received the roof vent bent on corners. Missing screws.Got the screw driver but no screws. Corner is bent, try to straighten it up paint chipped off now I can’t use it as it will rust.
