The embroidery in this book is beautiful and there's no doubt Trish Burr is an expert at needle shading. I was however a bit disappointed in this book. As you can see from the photo, there are numbers. These are the thread colours to use, but the petals are not all the same, and two of the petals, with different colouring, have no thread colours shown at all.And does the first number go in the middle, or the outside edge? It doesn't say! Yes, you can make a guess, or you could just choose your own mix of colours, but that's not the point!

This book is nicely produced with lots of colour photographs and instructions for reproducing the designs shown. There are clear diagrams and plenty of advice for choosing stitches and skein colours.I was disappointed with the book once I saw that the designs included are in fact reproductions of vintage postcards and not the author's original work. With the software available these days, one could process pictures oneself and have the adventure of finding the colours that match. There is not much advice about making one's own image, neither working from a given starting point nor from an idea in one's head. It feels a copy-book (in the positive sense) rather than an incentive to create. It isn't what I hoped.

This embroidery book is perfect for people who are new at hand embroidery. Everything is explained and you have pictures to follow and are even given the colour chart for each picture. So pleased with it. Thank you Trish Burr

Wonderful book, full of beautiful images and lots of inspiration and information. I like the small project at the back of the book (a needlecase) but the small images throughout the book lend themselves to all kinds of things. Small enough to not be daunting to try but with enough intricacy to be interesting to work.

Quality book containing great designs. Has clear step by step instructions with colour photographs at each stage. Suitable for both beginners and more experienced embroiderers.
