A magical lens.
85 mm is a legendary focal length for Portraits. The compression on any 85 mm makes it ideal for Portrait Photography. The Nikon 85 1.8 is a great lens. I don't use the word great lightly. Among the Nikon full frame prime lenses it's my favourite. The sharpness is unmatched. The background blur is very good, not 70 200 2.8 mm good but it does the job. The other 85 from Nikon that is the Nikon 1.4 85mm is much more expensive at around 1.3 lakhs. The Bokeh on both is great. But unless you are looking for the 1.4 aperture wide Bokeh this 1.8 85 mm will do nicely for most of your portrait shoot. It's a great lens for candid wedding photography too. If you are not one of those boring Photographer's who don't want to look beyond the cheap 50 mm 1.8 Nikon you can definitely go for this lens.

Best lens
Images captured in this are so beautiful and crisp. My first prime lens.Remember it’s 85mm and it’s not the one for landscape or group photography! But one of the best for portrait, night shoot, food, baby, pets photography.

Lens is excellent, but why has Amazon discounted it AFTER my purchase?Turns out, Amazon has started giving a discount of 10% on the MRP of the lens, just after my purchase. Feeling cheated.

Sharp & crisp image quality
Image is sharp and 1.8 gives a beautiful brokeh in the background. Using it on D5300, gives a solid ergonomic feeling. A must buy if you love portrait photography
