Great for smaller and younger hands
I purchased this hammer for a middle school child that was interested in carpentry. I specifically chose this hammer because it was lightweight (but not flimsy), scaled down a bit and made in the USA. Good reviews were a bonus. After seeing it in use by the middle schooler, I am confident that this is an excellent purchase that will serve that child well. It is sturdy and gets the job done. Another reviewer suggested that this was not the best as a go-to hammer, but better for finer work. I would agree with that statement for an adult. For a youth, I think this is a superb starter and go-to hammer. I would definitely purchase it again if needed. I would bet that it would work well for someone with petite hands as well, but I can't be sure about that.I mainly wanted to contribute that this is great for youth, because I didn't see much about that in other reviews, and that was the information I was searching for.

For our five year old grandson's birthday
My husband made a workbench for our grandson and we bought tools for it. GS already had some tools from his grandpa and his grandpa's dad. We bought this hammer as the size is right for little hands and it is such good quality. The other stellar tool we found is a German drill that you turn kind of like an eggbeater. Husband says it is a hand crank drill. Actually I'd like this hammer in the house. Our oldest grandson is 7 and he recently saw the toolbench and said he would like one. I measured his bellybutton height and it is 32", I figure that is about the right heighth. He has a younger brother who will probably also want one, and birthday boy has a younger brother who shows (too much) interest in the tools.

Nice Hammer, Defaced by Glue from Labels
I purchased two of these Vaughan rip hammers, a 10-oz for smaller nails and a 16oz for general use. The quality and workmanship is well above that of inexpensive store-bought hammers, but there were three labels (company logo, barcode, & safety warning) on each of the wooden handles which left behind considerable glue after removal. Even worse, nothing (water, oil, WD-40, etc) was entirely successful in removing all the glue from the pores of that wood. At this point, short of sanding and applying a new finish, I'm evidently stuck with that glue indefinately. That said, I'm still impressed enough with the hammers to give both a good rating.

Looks and works like a quality tool, only smaller.
The perfect toss in the toolbag hammer. As it's just a touch heavier than the typical 7oz hammers available it'll handle quite a range of small jobs without weighing down the tool bag. I just used it on an old deck that had many many protruding nails after being neglected, whacked down what seemed like hundreds of nails with one good hit each without any fatigue at all. I stripped the finish off the handle and treated the wood with boiled linseed oil which improved the grip as well as giving it a nice patina. The metal is well finished, it balances very well, looks and works like a quality tool should.

Just right hammer
I bought this little 10 oz. hammer for my wife 20 years ago and it lives in her kitchen fix-it drawer with screwdrivers and pliers. It’s just right for common household jobs. A quality tool to last a lifetime.

Quality tool.
This little 10oz hammer is a work of art. This size is a great compliment for the homeowner or individual that already has the standard 16 oz size. Perfectly finished, balanced and weighted. A must for more detailed or finished work where less force and more control are needed. Highly recommended after you have the regular 16 oz. size. Quality made in US by a great company that's been around for decades.

Bought this for my 6-year old daughter so she can practice driving finishing nails, but we built a table with it and now I want her to share it with me.

Sturdy little hammer
Perfect for my daughters dorm-room toolkit. It's small, but for hanging pictures or other small tasks, it's perfect.
