GSI Outdoors Lexan Utility Gear Box I Waterproof, All-Purpose Heavy Duty Storage Box

Bought this as a kayak trip gearbox to hold electronics. As others have mentioned, it was under a strong vacuum when it arrived, even though it was in the 90s. They must close them up in a very hot factory close to sea level. Placed a knife at the gap on a front latch and put gentle pressure on until air leaked in. It's a good size to hold a DSLR and an extra lens for wildlife photography on the shore. Nearly clear with green tint is a plus for viewing a phone or GPS without worrying about getting it wet, but it gets a bit hot in the box if you don't keep it shaded when out on the water. Just what I was looking for.

Nice large box that is completely waterproof and floats. It can hold even the largest phone, keys, wallet and several more items. The only caveat is that the closing mechanism is very tight (as it should be to be waterproof) and you have to have fairly strong fingers in order to open it.

When I purchased the XL box, I was having trouble getting a feel for exactly how big the box was. I wanted something large enough to fit my husband's binoculars and maybe even a small bird ID book when we are out on a kayak. At the time, large waterproof boxes were incredibly hard to find. I am happy to report that this box met our needs perfectly! The label lists the travel dimensions as 10.625x 8.875x 5.375 inches (of course the inner dimensions are smaller due to the thickness of the plastic). I have plenty of room to fit a set of binoculars, a small field guide, and maybe even a small camera and cell phone. Very Pleased! We have not yet gotten this box wet but judging from the seemingly sound construction I have faith that it will do just fine.

The supposedly "clear" box has a strange green tint to it. I'm going to go ahead with using it the way I intended, which is as a housing for a security cam. But my video is going to be tinted green. Product description should be updated to say translucent, not "clear." (In retrospect I see now that the photo does look a little greenish, but the box received is a lot more green.)

This is one of my favorite boxes for storage. Extremely well made, rugged and waterproof. I use it both for holding delicate items when hiking and for storage of important documents. The Lexan is nearly indestructible and you can see through it. I liked it enough to order several sizes over the years. GSI has been making the same box for many years. I highly recommend it.

Great little box. Just what I needed, sturdy, and as advertised.I think the handle is unnecessary; but they did a great job designing it so that it has almost no effect on the overall profile of the box.There's a giant sticker on the top that should be removed verrry carefully and slowly to avoid leaving residue. A think certain solvents will disolve the finish of the box.

These boxes are great. They have a fantastic water sealed lid and are very strong, yet lite. I use them for camping supplies and keeping first aid stuff in. I recommend at least the medium size for a first aid kit, if you are going to put very much in it at all.

Needed an option for keeping a lighter outdoors.Works very well for me, is watertight and lightweight.

these really are top notch. Totally waterproof and great feeling of quality about them. I bought one 5 years ago in an outdoor shop and it is still as good as new. the clips are quite hard to undo but this gets better as time goes on and it is far better that they are tight than loose. I smear a bit of bees wax on the catches. it works a treat. dont be tempeted to mess with the closure things with sandpaper or anything as it is a fine line between a good fit and a loose annoying one
