Nice Ultrabook, some problems:
I bought my Ultra book from Asus as a Refurbished unit. Out of the box I had a lot of problems, and am currently in the process with Asus Support. VERY nice build for a Windows Ultra book, but there are some issues:-Rubber feet on the bottom of the laptop are falling off, they were not attached right when I got the unit out of the box.-The display's bezel was coming off the lid, and I had to put pressure on it with my fingers to get it to adhere. So far it has stayed in place, but I mentioned this to the support case and they are supposedly going to look at it.-The back-lit keyboard will NOT light up. I tried re-installing drivers and checking the bios, and disabling ambient lighting. It will not work.-Ambient lighting doesn't work. No matter what lighting environment i am in, the screen stays at the same lighting level. So it obviously does not work.-The laptops was very slow out of the box. I took a day and installed all the new updates and the laptop is now speedy.-Drivers do not make sense on the Asus support site. Some drivers say they are for UX51VZ and UX51VZH or UX51VZA. So I am unsure if the BIOS updates are for my particular unit or not, as they all have different interchangeable names.-Not a problem, but kind of annoying, the space bar makes a squeak noise anytime its pressed.Overall, I love the build and how it looks. It feels premium, and cheap as parts do not work correctly... Not worth $1200 for the refurbished price, but let's see what Asus Tech Support has to offer me.______________________________________________EDIT 29 November, 2014:Screen is STUNNING! Gorgeous display. They did not cheap out on the colors and viewing angles. I play TF2 and simCity 2013 on this laptop, and I can get high on TF2 and Medium settings with Sim City on the 650m graphics card. Hands down the best display for a laptop. This is why it got 4 stars even though it has all these issues.______________________________________________Edit: December 23, 2014I dropped this Ultrabook to One Star as Asus support is a joke. They denied my warranty initially and I had to fight them with my invoice and after showing them that the company I bought the laptop from was a certified reseller, and that I would sue them, they finally gave in to repairing my laptop. I paid two day shipping and it sat for two weeks before they started to work on it. Filed a BBB complaint. I hope that it is fixed or I am going to be P(super upset)ssed.______________________________________________Edit: January 3, 2015Still waiting for RMA to finish my laptop... I called them and they said a few more business days, so I am assuming weeks. I'll post when I get it back._______________________________________________Edit: January 27, 2015I did get my laptop back. About two weeks ago. I believe it was between January 10 - 12. Anyhow, they did fix everything, but they installed Windows in legacy mode, which ruins the boot experience and causes longer boots. I had to follow a guide to install it in UEFI mode. I am fluent with computers, and it is a piece of cake to reinstall windows. Just involved a few command prompt functions in the install window. Overall, I like this computer and I would buy another. Great build quality, love the metal design. Asus service is equivalent to herding cats.
