Good book, a little outdated but still relevant
I have read through many sections of this book in my research of ancient horseshoes. It has so much great information on the history of shoes and how they were made. The only drawbacks i have discovered so far is that it was written so long ago and nowadays archaeologists have discovered ways of approximating some of the ages of different shoes, using methods that weren’t heard of at the time of this book’s publication. I do admire the author’s enthusiasm about the discoveries that had happened in his time. It would also help if he had one page full of drawings of some of the different types of shoes from different periods all next to each other for easy comparison, as you have to page through the whole book to find each different shoe. It would also be helpful (and again this is mainly because in his time some of the dating methods hadn’t been figured out) if he had the approximate dates for each of the shoes under the picture. He does have tons of detailed drawings of different types of shoes that have been discovered, where they were discovered, and some dates when he knew them. It is a great book.
