This is another publication from this great Art series - A Guide to Imagery. The layout is familiar to those who know the series and to those who don't you will be delighted. This series provides a fascinating and straightforward means to understand the symbols and allegories in key paintings. As a means to interpret and decipher paintings, as a means to see pieces of art in a new light and as a means to get access to sometimes difficult pieces of work it is ideal. It speaks clearly, it presumes you are interested, it doesn't talk down and is very clear. The page layout normally consists of a painting with clear annotations and notes accompanying the page. It works easily on many levels and is a delight to read. As an interested amateur it is a perfect piece to dip into, to review and also take along with you.The whole series is excellent and this is another fine example. Very well worth the price.

Love the simple, user friendly way that the methodology for explaining the symbolism on each page is laid out. Also, the book size makes it easy to take with you to galleries etc. Just what I wanted and hoped for.

The illustrations are bright, clear and colourful. The text and print are clear and easy to read. We would recommend it to anyone who has any interest in art.

A small and compact guide to the use of symbols in art.Well set out and designed and of course profusely illustrated.The paintings are all quite small due to the size of the book itself but are clear and have lots of annotations to explain the various points.An interesting read that will enable you to actually look deeper into traditional paintings.

A great help for anyone studying art history

A very interesting book however some of the text is rather small making it difficult to read especially in low light conditions in galleries and historic houses.The book arrived well but not over packed in good time.

Tis a wonderful book to sit down and flip through. It's very informative, and the quality of the pages and prints are good. I just didn't like the size of it, but I can't cut the rating because I knew what I was buying. It's a nice little book to keep you engaged and has useful information. ​
