The Strangers: Prey at Night [Blu-ray]

I don't usually buy movies when there are so many on Prime to watch. But this was worth the money to be scared. I never watched these two movies (the first Strangers movie) and this one. It took a friend whose recommendations I believe to rent it and watch it. It was well worth the money, to watch the first movie and then the sequel. Now I'm looking forward to the new updated Strangers movie coming out in a couple weeks in May 2024.

Honestly if you think about it the first one had to be slower because there was only 2 people. It's faster paced because theres more people. The only things I didn't like *SPOILER*about this movie was that the mom should've lived longer. Like half way at least just to give her character a little more ummphh. And the constant crying and freaking out. But that's from an adults perspective. This movie I would give 3.8 stars but thats not an option so 4 :)All of you who are knocking down this film need to chill seriously. I thought this movie was refreshing. I've seen 1 star and 2 star films this is not it. And you over there talking about all the tropes. Yeah you. The girl is falling down because her leg was stabbed. I'd be falling down too if my leg was stabbed. If you took the perspective as a teenager you would notice how much they are not super tough. And as humans if we freak out we're not always gonna be on the ball. Some scenes I'm like hey. But then you have to think about it from a teenage girls perspective and boy. But overall I think it was well done. I like how they killed the suckers off. Yeah! That was well done. Like stab her and then he did lol. Or shoot her he didnt but she did. I was at this movie. Was I scared no. But nothing scares me except real life lol. Was it fun yes. If you want fun and thrilling and screaming at the screen and cheering on the characters and some gaspings then this is the movie. I cant say the first is better because the way each of them are done are done differently. Honestly when I first watched the first one I hated it and I thought it was boring. Watched it later on and enjoyed it. Besides the same type of characters like the masked faces. I do believe they are different. The first is like a beginning and this one is like the end.

This, in my opinion has to be the only good sequel ever, usually the follow ups to originals either don't live up to the original movies or more commonly just ruin the original just to make a quick buck.I seen a lot of bad reviews for this movie but I was a huge fan of the original so they didn't hold me back and glad I didn't miss out on this great horror flick.I actually enjoyed this movie over the original which surprised the hell out of me, this one was less predictable, and had some surprising twists. It's set in a different time period and is relevant to its era which is nice and gives more attitude and depth into the killers.Don't let the negative comments about this movie hold you back, I'd say give it at least one watch and decide for yourself.

Unfortunately this is not that movie. As a long time fan of the first film, this movie left me feeling a bit odd. I recognize these villains in this movie and in many ways they mimic them well, but there's an uncanny valley sort of effect where it feels like I'm watching a fan-film attempting to look like The Strangers and achieving only a cheap imitation. I'll say the positives first which primarily boil down to the music (which was at times strangely placed, but great nonetheless), and the last twenty to twenty-five minutes of the film. The latter of these two is possibly the most infuriating as it seems like either the writers finally woke up when they got to this part of the script or they wrote this first and rushed out a flimsy pretext to move the movie to this point. Either way, it's frustrating to see that not only was the potential there, but some of it was utilized but too little and too late.On to the bad.The cinematography isn't terrible, but even for a movie set at night it's so god-awful dark I can sometimes scarcely tell what's going on. The script writing hurts me at times and although the actors deliver their lines well, it's hard to take a lot of the early dialogue seriously. I will say though, Bailee Madison has never been a favorite actress of mine. I've only seen her in a few roles, but whenever I see her she seems to be playing emotional roles well past the level of human and into high school stage play levels, and yet in a movie about serial killers trying to slice up you and your family, I couldn't think of anyone better suited and her emotional style is well-suited to her character so I'm glad her character got to be the heroine here.The thing that most bothers me about this film is it felt flimsy, like wet cardboard. Part of what made the first film so good was the methodical building of suspense and terror as well as the fact that the killers themselves were ordinary people who only chose to do what they did because they wanted to. In this one they've become full-on horror franchise villains. Like Michael Myers being able to flip a car or lower himself one-armed from a banister, The Strangers now, more than ever, are masters of appearing wholesale from the darkness, setting traps for people who walk in at the perfect time and place to trip them, and who never seem to fall behind or run out of breath chasing after sprinting teenagers. Gone is the unsettling sadism with which they seem to enjoy building terror in their victims only to kill them with the same slow burn, now they just immediately stab to death whatever they can get their knives around. The ending itself doesn't make a lick of sense, I wouldn't call it an ending at all. Also, Pinup Girl was in literally two scenes, what happened there?I'd probably rate this movie higher if it weren't trying to pass itself off as a sequel to The Strangers. I'd probably rate it lower if it weren't for the last thirty minutes. I wouldn't say this was not worth watching, just don't go in expecting the same quality as the first film. Expect a quick and dirty setup to get our victims inside the kill area, expect the kills to be quick and clean, expect every slasher stereotype in the book squished together with as many throwbacks to the last film as they can think of. If that sounds okay to you, I would highly recommend this. 2.5/5 but I usually round up.

and finally bought the blu ray

This movie is great! Yes, it has many cliche horror film things in it but who CARES!! Many other popular horror films do it too!! Hence “cliche”!! BUT I actually really liked this movie!! I’m a horror film freak and the beginning I had very low hopes but when the get got going I was screaming in my seat!! (Not from fear) lol but nevertheless, I think I actually like this movie better than the original! They are actually pretty different in almost every aspect except for the “killers” of course but I appreciate both films and their differences! Their were many parts that did frustrate me but in the end I loved it! I didn’t buy it, it was on prime but if I would’ve bought it I would not have been disappointed! :)

So the Og and prey at night are the better films , The Strangers chapter 1 was so awful so these are your better choices 10/10
