A much needed Unity Reference book and tutorial
This shows you what you need to do to build simple games in unity. Unity provides lots of video help, but to see how to do one thing, you have to watch hours of videos. They also provide lots of reference materials on line, which says what is available and what it does, but not what to use to get things done. (Same as everyone else). What is needed is some way of answering the question of "How do I do what I want to do?"And this book answer these questions well. It is deigned to teach someone how to use Unity. And it does that very well as well. Both Manning and O'reily produce very good Computer books. These could be college textbooks, but unlike textbooks, you don't need a professor to explain them to you.If you don't have a book that answers the basic question of "How do I build a Unity Game?", then this will be a great help.

If you are looking for a good instructional book without feeling overwhelmed, this is the one.
Admittedly I am not one who usually leaves reviews on products. I had to leave a review for this book. I am a java programmer and software architect so have a good background of OOP and development. However no experience at all with game development. This book goes step by step of the major areas required for developing a game. It is very clear and educational. The many best practice comments or call outs for why something was done in a certain way is invaluable. In addition the ability to download the project which has great comments added to the scripts helps ensure the reader completed the exercise correctly. If you are looking for a good book to get started without feeling overwhelmed this is the one.

Great for starting with Unity
Coming from a programming background (java, studying c#), this book delivers on its claim of helping to get programmers learning Unity quickly. While not fully extensive, the Unity online manual can help fill the gaps in learning theAPI, this book provides sufficient examples and knowledge of the common use cases for Unity. A great starting point for those wanting to learn the basics of the game engine. Word of advice: get the corrections for the examples at their online site before starting any project to prevent confusion

Very Basic, Short and Not Very In Depth in Any Concept.
In general, books that cover basics or are used as an introduction to a tool like Unity cover a broad amount of basic information about the product you're using, this book covers the basics that you get for free from Unity itself and it's learning modules.Certainly not worthy of the price tag.

Great for programmers who want to learn to code
I am a professional programmer. This book was perfect for me: it taught me the "Unity way" of doing things. Not everything was intuitive at first, but the complete examples and line-by-line explanations made it easy to grasp the concepts presented. I feel like I have the tools to go make my first game.

Worth the money.
This is a good book, but the best thing about it, is the source code provided, actually works. In addition, the publisher provides a PDF version of the book also, along with all the source code.

Trade paperback
I received a beat up 20 cent novel from the 1990s you would find at the local library as a freebee. I have no Idea if the Unity book is good. I had to teach myself Unity and I don’t regret it. I learned c# quickly as I am already familiar with C. But honestly just use unreal engine if you are starting out, it’s what the pros use!

Good book, unfortunately outdated
This gives you a great overview of how to do lots of really cool stuff in Unity. Unfortunately, Unity has just changed too many times since it was written.Your best bet is learn.unity.com. That's sometimes still behind the curve, but at least it can be updated, unlike a book that's stuck in its final form.

Great book! Provides a decent overview of the essentials. Pleasant, no-nonsense style.
I like the book a lot. It focusses on the essentials and leaves out any unnecessary distractions, so that busy people like me can quickly get a good and fairly complete understanding of game development in Unity. Great book. Thanks a lot!

Very Good
This book is written in a clear, easy to understand fashion. I'm reading it cover to cover (about 2/3 through as I speak) to get a better understanding of Unity and it is working. Good diagrams and all the code has comments written in bold black text. Then the author goes over the code again in the following paragraphs to ensure you got it. I've been using Unity for about 2 years now and I'm picking up lots of new things with this book.

Great learning for those with some knowledge of programming
I teach programming and games development in a college. Most of my students come to Unity with some programming knowledge but limited development experience. This book emphasises good practical Unity programming and explains the reasons for choices made in programming. I have both editions of the book myself, recommend it to students and have just got our college library to buy a copy. The e-book is a useful extra as it can be carried around on a mobile device.
