TimexMen's Expedition North Field Post Solar 36mm Watch

simple, water resistant, accurate, and seems durable
I have had the watch for a few weeks and it has exceeded my expectations. Sapphire crystal face - still perfectly clear after some, mostly light, every-day wear and tear, and an occasional scrape with a wall, and even a couple drops. Movement & accuracy - from what I can see the movement is quite accurate and well within a range that I am happy with. It gains, perhaps, 3/4 of a second per day when compared with the sweep hand on my I phone. In fact, that may be settling down a little now that I have had it for several days. Bottom line, it keeps perfectly accurate time for all but the most finicky. Screw down crown is key and works well. Check it before you go into the water. I snorkeled almost every day in Vieques recently and never took the watch off once. It is watertight and could probably handle much more that showers, pools, and light swimming. I like this watch a lot. Simple, sharp, and reliable. If that's what you want and don't need to make a statement from your wrist, this is an excellent choice. I'm hoping it holds up longer than watches which I have had that are meant to make a statement; I have a feeling it will.

Bulky strap, low contrast mar what should be perfect
The good: it’s a beautiful watch, solar quartz, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, for $150. It’s quiet, unlike every other Timex Expedition. The size is lovely; every company should make smaller watches. I have a 6” wrist. The bad: the contrast on the dial is poor - it’s gray with beige numbers and indices, which is challenging to read even in good light. The lume is terrible, and because it’s solar, you don’t get Indiglo. The case is a bit thick for its diameter, and the band is VERY thick, while also being a bit too narrow (18mm) for my taste. The proportions just felt a bit off for me, and I ended up returning it and buying a Vaer S3 instead.

Practicality First
This is a simple, no frills watch from a well regarded brand. It has good water resistance, good durability, and high accuracy. If all you need is a way to tell the time that won’t fail you, buy this watch. As it’s solar powered, it doesn’t need to be wound or have a battery replaced or charged in the foreseeable future. This longevity and low effort maintenance was the most important feature for me, and part of why I chose this over a digital watch (along with digital watches potentially being bricked from firmware).I shouldn’t have to say this but obviously it doesn’t come out of the box charged and working - you need to leave it by a window or something for a day. After that, it will always work so long as you wear it outside every so often. The battery life is claimed to be 2 months but I’m not about to leave it in a closet for 2 months to test this. This is a newer model than the version I’d been trying to buy and it appears to have a more readable face as well as luminescent watch hands which are helpful for telling the time in the dark. It’s also nearly silent so ticking won’t be an issue. My only complaint is the watchband. It’s a serviceable quick release band, but it’s a bit on the short side and I wanted something of higher quality so I replaced it with a Hirsch 120mm/100mm watchband that actually fits and is altogether nicer than the out of the box band.

Not happy
Right box and strap but wrong colored watch. Seems to have been reboxed and sold as new

Know what really counts in a watch
Never needs a battery, water resistant to 100 meters , screw down crown, hackable , Sapphire crystal , never needs to be wound, powered by the sun and extraordinarily accurate. How can you beat that. Certainly not with a Rolex .

This is the one
Great watch! Lightweight and comfy to wear. Very accurate as well as it doesn’t seem to loose much time at all. Only slight drawback is the lume isn’t great but that wasn’t a big deal for me. Highly reccomend.

Arrived DOA for 3 days
Able to reset time no problem. But watch not running at all, even after 24hrs left under house lights. Can’t wind watch either like some auto’s. After next 24 hrs under close (2ft away) incandescent it is finally alive and ticking. But double secondhand ticking means it still is not close to well charged. I will give it another week before I send it back. Factory should have fully charged the watch before shipping. There are no operating or startup instructions.I would normally have put watch outside in the sun to charge, but on Dec 20 we have short days, low angled sun, and it is 10deg outside this week.General appearance, weight, and size are good and all as expected. Note that leather strap is good, but not great. And it has the quick release feature which is nice.Update:Took a week to get watch charged so second hand moving smoothly. No obvious way to check charge level. Despite claim, interior lights including LED did not provide much charge. Had to prop watch up in the front window for a day where it got direct sunlight for several hours. This matched the advice found on internet. Lack of any instructions is a serious omission by Timex. Have not yet had watch long enough to benchmark accuracy.
