Perfect introduction hypnobirthing
If you've thought about hypnobirthing but not sure if you want to do a paid course, or would like to give it a go at home then this book is a must. I found it hard to put down and Katharine's ideas made so much sense to me. I liked the theory so much that I went on to do an online course and now use this book to support that learning.

Oppressive, not what I thought I was buying
There are only a handful of pages in this book that actually have any useful techniques to use during birth. Everything else is about the author’s views on how pregnancy / birth ‘should’ be, and what women should want. Many chapters have nothing to do with birth whatsoever. I bought the book based on the glowing recommendations here but I wish I hadn’t read it because the main messages seem to be ‘Don’t trust your medical team’, ‘All interventions are bad news’ and ‘you’re letting your baby / self down if you have pain relief’. This book feels oppressive, not what I thought I was buying, and now I actually feel worse about my forthcoming birth, suspicious of the medical team I had fully trusted, and with very little information about actual hypnobirthing. Would give 0 stars if I could.

Good 3 relaxing relaxation you can download.
It's a good book although I expected something more out of it. It opens up your eyes about a few things but then there are others I would just leave. You can download 3 relaxing relaxation they are also useful before giving birth, you can switch off a little from your world.

Very helpful
I loved this book, it gave me confidence. I asked my husband to read it as well as he was quite anxious about homebirth and it really calmed him down.

... contains the essence of the KGH Course which I love teaching so much
This book contains the essence of the KGH Course which I love teaching so much. When I was looking for a hypnobirthing course to train in as a teacher KGH stood out for me as most aligned with my values and ethos as a UK midwife. I love how this book covers the physiological aspects of birth - logically explaining how and why things happen - and explains how the mind can affect the hormones and biochemistry of birth. It gives insight into the UK maternity systems and the roles of different practitioners so that families can plan their birth in the most suitable place for their circumstances. It also includes the relaxation scripts that are taught in classes and the MP3 link provides the audios. I still think most people would benefit from a full course but if that's not possible then this book provides the information and resources that, with practice, can help you achieve the right birth for you.

Great book
Great book, but I'm giving 4 stars because I didn't get a code with it to download the tracks so I had to contact the book company which was quite an inconvenience.

The MP3 download is very basic and not user friendly with IPhone
I purchased this product mostly for the download options for when I am in labor. Not sure if it was user error, but I didn't know that you can't download an MP3 on an IPhone. The downloads available with the purchase are very basic. For example it gives an introduction, and 1 or two sample downloads. You have to purchase additional content. I had hoped for more with the purchase.

Good book.
This book is the British component of hypnobirthing. I read this book and the Mongan book. I liked both, but I felt like this book was more “to the point” with less fluff. The MP3s are easy to download to your computer. I have yet to go into labor, but the relaxations have helped with general stress and anxiety. It also gave me permission to not watch any horror or shoot-em-up movies, so I’m happy about that :-)

Judgemental, unhelpful, and NOT empowering
I love the idea of using hypnobirthing methods during birth. However, as other reviewers have noted, very little content is actually focused on this. A good portion of the book pontificates what the author imagines as the ideal birth (unmedicated, going past 42 weeks and not inducing) without solid research on either side mentioned. The actual "downloads" don't work with an iPhone (it's 2020, COMEON!) and the content is funny without intending to be. My husband and I couldn't listen to the recordings seriously because they were inane -- "Baby knows best!" The author displays a lack of thoughtfulness, empathy, maturity, and her writing is devoid of modern science. In contrast, I loved Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and would highly recommend that instead.

I really enjoyed this book
Until a month ago I had never heard of hypnobirthing. I have had 5 children and am now pregnant with my 6th. I am due next week and hoping that this book will give me all the tools needed to be able to forego having an epidural this time around. I am not using a midwife and will probably not be using a lot of the advice in this book, as I plan on delivering in the hospital, but I know the visualizations and meditations will be a great aid to me being able to relax and get this baby out in a peaceful way.

Calmer labor ahead!
I came across hypnobirthing while pregnant with my first child. I read this book, downloaded the audio, and practiced daily until labor started. I was able to stay calm, use breathing techniques, and had a much more enjoyable experience than I might have otherwise. The book talks about natural techniques to use as well as partner exercises and discusses what is happening in your body so you know why you're feeling what you do. I am pregnant with number 2 and intend to re-read and practice again!

Calm and Concise
I bought this book to help a friend who is having a first baby soon. I've read similar books on Hypnobirthing, and this one really stands out to me. It's very easy to read and understand, and it really gives excellent details. I think whether you're new to Hypnobirthing or have been there and done that, this will be a favorite. Also the relaxation audio that goes along with the book is fabulous. Her soothing voice will be a welcome dose of calm to any expecting mother.

Easy Read, Helpful, Informative
Going into my pregnancy I didn’t know anything about hypnobirthing but I definitely heard the word all over the place. I looked it up one day and thought it sounded promising. I’m always up for anything all natural and I’m a pretty open minded person as well. I eventually decided on this book and really loved it ! I still have about 15 pages or so to go but I feel confident in saying how great it is. It’s very informative and I really like how she explains things. I’m not huge on the relaxation scenario things but I still think they can be helpful and I certainly like the idea behind them. I’ll probably be using the audio version of the relaxation things instead. Overall I think this is a good easy read too. I’m not a huge reader quite honestly but I got through this book pretty quickly. I also never wanted to put it down because I just wanted to keep reading lol. I don’t think you can go wrong with this book at all.

Poor binding
For some reason the pages of this copy keep popping loose which is such a shame because the book itself so far is great and I’m sure I will need to read it multiple times as I get closer to the due date. I’ve never really had this happen on a new book before very disappointed in the quality of the binding.

Perfect Guide to The birth you want
I love love loved this book. It gave so much useful information on what birth would be like but more importantly, ways to focus your mind and power talk yourself into doing what your body already knows how to do! It really really really helped ease my mind about what to do and what to expect. It was at least 50% of the reason that I was able to have an unmedicated birth!

Recommend the book
I love the examples the book offers. Very informative details on how to relax your body. My only question is, I'm having a hard time understanding how to get the audio MP3 that came with it, how do I download it?

Could be amazing if practiced longer than a month
A lot of really great stuff in here! I would recommend getting it early in pregnancy and practicing! I got it the last month of my pregnancy and although I still do use the techniques in this book to fall asleep and chill myself out- labor got too intense for me to use these practices once contractions got intense around 7 cm dialated
