The Real Taste of Jamaica Paperback – September 1, 2000

I had this very same book before and my daughter misplaced it in her food class at school so I had to get a second one. It’s a very good book excellent Jamaican cooking, book was not new but look like new in very good condition I would recommend it to everyone who love Jamaican food.

It is a very well-compiled book. I had the previous copy. There are quite a few new recipes in this newer edition. The directions are very clear and easy to follow.

For the people who loves Jamaican food and would like to cook it - you should buy this book. The recipes are authentic. This book is great for any Jamaican who just never learned to cook. You will not be disappointed.

I love the updates. The recipes are easily followed as they are clear. The exposition regarding ingredients is appreciated too.

I had a copy of this book when it first came out. Bought this updated copy for a friend. A few things have changed but we love this book. Great recipes, no matter which country you are from in the Caribbean, you can use this.

Bought this book for my wife as a gift on our 29th Anniversary (along with other gifts of course). Today September 7th she was busy trying the recipe for "Housewives Hardough Bread". She said it was the best Anniversary gift she ever got (ungrateful woman). Now she is looking at the recipe for Gizzardas.I think this is a great, great book after all it seems to work in making the wife really happy. I am just a little concerned that considering the time she is now putting in Baking and Cooking by trying the recipes in the Book, other things are now put on "the back burner". As a Husband that's a serious concern!!

This is an old-fashioned type of cookbook by our spoilt modern standards but on the recipe front, boy does it deliver!I love Levi Roots cookbooks because they are modern and exciting but to me this is THE Jamaican food bible.It has all the traditional Jamaican recipes you could wish for: jerks of course but also curried goat, ackee and saltfish, codfish fritters, Johnny cakes, patties, bullas, spice buns...You name it... All of these recipes are clearly explained and absolutely delicious, nothing fancy, just good, clear instructions to get you there. My in-laws are Jamaican and last time, they asked for my recipe for spice bun, the best they had had in years ( Blush, blush...), now what does that tell you? OK they might have just wanted to be pleasant guests but just to give you an idea of how good the book is, there are actually 4 recipes for Easter spice bun to choose from : baking soda, baking powder, yeast and stout...Brilliant!

My sister in-law bought this book while we were all in Jamaica on vacation and I love the recipes that are in the book. I was born in Jamaica and now live in Canada since I was eleven and I missed a lot of the foods that I had as a child. Now I will be able to make these again and will eventually pass the book on to our daughter. Best book of recipes on Jamaican food.

I know a lot about Jamaican cooking but was advised to purchase this book. It has more descriptive information about the products used in West Indian cooking and offers a lot more in recipes too. Well pleased.

All kinds of good recipes. Have not made anything yet but I will. Nice for a gift. Love this kind of food .
