The Best Kumano Kodo Guide Available!
I have used this book extensively for planning a trip to hike the Kumano Kodo in Japan. This guide is incredibly informational and helpful. I love that it includes information on accommodations along the trail including exact descriptions about where they are located and what to expect. The maps are clear and coded extremely well. The layout and order of the book makes sense - I don't waste time not being able to find the exact passage I'm looking for.We will be going on our trek in 2 months and this guide was the best planning tool I could have found. It has the answer to every question that I have wondered about so far, and I'm sure it's going to be absolutely pivotal when we arrive.

Very, very useful information in this comprehensive guide.
This book helped us do our hike independently. The tourism office provides great information, but it is really hard to figure out from Canada. I read about others doing the hike on their own. We preferred this approach because it allowed us freedom to adjust our plan given weather and other factors. Beautiful experience, by the way, Kumano Kodo is a trip of a lifetime : )

Essential Reading - Perfect Planning Tool
A definitive English language guide when planning a trek along the Kumano Kodo. Supplement with local maps & GPS downloads but this is a small sized book perfect for your day pack. The trail is often well signed, but this book gives good context, is nicely photographed to give you a flavour of what to expect along the way, having enough maps to help access the trail and choose a suitable section to explore. Also used the Cicerone guide for the Camino de Santiago and find them excellent companions for hikers are of all abilities. Recommended.

Complete resource for planning the trek.
Having hiked the Camino (a similar trek but in Spain) I appreciated very much the information presented in this book. It is obviously written for someone who needs to understand the infrastructure in Japan that the hiker will need. The other books get lost with personal experiences and thoughts that I can gather on my own. This book is complete and supportive.
