CABOT SAMUEL25200-07 INC Deck Correct GAL Stain, 1 Gal, No Color

My 18 year old deck looked brand new, and was able tosell our house fast. It turned out to be thick that covereda lot of the old wood, that are still intact. Good product, hopeit will last for the new homeowners.

Covers well, but dried finish is very rough. I’m sure this is to prevent slipping. However, it also shows dust easily and is not comfortable to walk barefoot on. I purchased the recommended amount for my area, but it was twice what I needed after painting two coats. It’s rather expensive and I have too much left over to justify the cost. Also, it did not fill in small cracks as advertised. I will not purchase this product again.

I love this product. My deck looks great and now no fear of slipping on it. However this product does not come tinted and most stores do not carry all the tint colors and will not add the tint if you did not buy the entire thing from them. I ran all I've LA trying to get the tint color, no luck!

So disappointed.... This product sounded great but arrived without tint, snow white, and I have no way of getting it tinted. Description of product does not convey fact that this product is not usable as purchased.

Easy to apply with roller.

We coated our deck with the prescribed two coats of this. We had it tinted to chestnut brown, which was an orangy color when wet, but dried to be truer to the paint chip. Though it does fill cracks and makes the deck look much better, the finish is sticky, even after 24 hours of dry time. In fact, our dog walked on it once it had been drying for 12 hours, and left obvious prints. Not sure why it's sticky still. We followed directions to the letter, and applied it in 70 degree, non-sunny weather, with no rain in the forecast, just as it specifies. We even did a thinner coat of it than the directions said.

Was super excited to paint my deck. Once opened realize hey its white?!? Original posts makes it look like it comes in a reddish. Doesn't say in description its not colored. Once I came back to double check I see u have to actually download the info to see its not tinted. 😳. Wish I knew that..

Today is mid-Oct 2020. Back in the spring (May) of 2019, I bought Cabot Deck Correct No. 25200 in Mission Brown color from my local DIY store. I wanted to leave a review after a season or more time to test the durability of the product, since it has quite a few poor online reviews. I decided to take a chance on this as it seemed to be exactly what I needed.I wanted to restore our 12ft x 16ft back deck. I think I used two cans, maybe three. The boards were old and had been painted, but that paint was peeling off and was almost gone in many places. The wooden railings were painted in the same awful orangey color! After cleaning, scraping, priming and final gloss painting the railing white gloss (what a job!), I was ready to do the deck floors and sides. I pressure-washed the deck to remove as much paint as possible as well as any grime. It rained after and I had to wait until the deck was dry again. I then used a palm sander to smooth out any paint edges and splinters. The wood was not soft/rotten but would get there if not treated.Ensuring a few days of dry, warm weather ahead, I applied the Deck Correct. I used a wide brush to get between the boards, under the railings and ensure the empty knots and depressions in the wood were filled Then, I used a roller to apply the first coat. This was done in the early afternoon and it was sunny and the Cabot dried fairly quickly, but not so quick that overlapping coats weren't still wet, like when you paint walls- wet over wet! The Deck Correct went on easily and seemed to cover the wood with a fairly thick layer. I let it dry overnight,but saw some small puddles of collected water under the gutters from condensation drips after a cool spring night. I worried this might have compromised the paint. I used a cloth to mop up the damp, then waited a few minutes for it to dry. The coating was still good. I applied the second coat. Then it was stay off it completely for a few days to make sure it cured fully. Fortunately it didn't rain until about 3 days later.While the Deck Correct was curing, I did the steps and then around the sides, especially the ends of the boards. The instructions suggested not to use it on vertical surfaces, but it brushed on easily and covered the wood just as well as on the deck floor. It was like thick paint and didn't run at all.it has now been two hot, sunny summers and one cold snowy winter. The Deck Correct still looks great. It hasn't lifted, peeled or even marked. We have had chairs with plastic feet, a table and a wheeled grill on it. While it might show a few light tracks from the grille, after a few days, those seem to disappear, especially after rain. When there has been a stain from dropped grease or food, a light rub-down with a wet cloth and some dish liquid cleans up the mess with no residue or marks. Rust stains are gone with Iron Out spray and a rinse. One thing I didn't do over the winter was use the snow shovel to remove the snow. That seemed like inviting trouble.Considering the poor condition of the deck when we moved here (see photo), it restored really well ( See photo with sunshade) and still looks good (other 3 photos). I anticipate a good amount of time before I need to repeat the process - thankful - it was a lot of work!Prep and apply it properly and you won't have a problem.
