Bushcraft Survival

Travel log
More of a travelogue as he reminisces about past trips instead of specific information. The one thing I got from the book is that the groups he talks about have lived and flourished in their environments for years. More of a living in the wilds for long periods of time instead of a "survival" handbook. Enjoyed reading it but I think the title is misleading.

Ray Mears is The Man!!
I never saw the TV show this book is based on, but the book by itself is excellent. It seems to cover several episodes of a worldwide British TV cultural documentary of local survival skills, both primitive and modern. IMO, Ray is one of the worlds most skilled survival experts and a heck of a nice guy to boot. Not your usual survival manual. An excellent book, very highly recommended. Fast delivery and well packaged. Thank you!!

Nice coffee table book.
Not a how to book as expected but enjoyable read none the less. One chapter uses photos to detailthe sequential construction of a birch bark canoe that was excellent.

I really enjoyed reading this book
I really enjoyed reading this book. There is a lot of information that is useful and not much that isn't as it reads like a generalist book rather than a specific climate or place manual.

A treasure trove of Ray Mears knowledge
I highly recommend this book to all those with a genuine interest in bush craft and survive techniques. I heartily recommend this book to all scouts and explorer scouts (and leaders) too, it is packed with great advice and is imparted with the clarity that Ray Mears is known for. There is plenty of real knowledge in these pages that a person would be hard pressed to find elsewhere and you would have to be in Ray's calibre to not find something new in these pages. If you come across a copy (as they are increasingly rare nowadays) buy it immediately, in my sincere opinion, you won't regret it.

Another very good book from Mr. Mears
Ray Mear's engagement with people from around the world who still live in close contact with the earth comes through very strongly. He shows great empathy and respect for these people and has managed to reflect the many skills they have gained over time to survive extreme environments in an easily understood and practical way for those who want to develop woodcraft knowledge themselves. He isn't gung ho in his approach so this may not appeal to the more extreme survivalists but does leave one with a sense of responsibility to the way we interact with our environment. I used the instructions for making bow drills with scouts, this filled a couple of hours where they realised that this isn't as easy as it looks and takes time and skill to get right.

Not Bushcraft
If your after a book to accompany the TV Series, then this IS the book for you. However if your after a book with instructional information about the art of Bushcraft, save your money and don't waste it on this book.Whilst this book was enjoyable to read it was more of a story of Rays travels rather than him passing on his widom an knowledge,A book to read once and not to keep. Disappointing really.
