Smart money here on the Maxcatch tenkara.
Price point cannot be beat. Do not spend more money for less quality. Fit and finish are excellent.Buddy introduced me to tenkara fishing. Showed me his 200.00 plus tenkara and claimed it was entry level. Hey it looked cool, the rig climbed 8 stockers in short succession. Therefore, I thought I'd look for one on the cheap. Cheap it is not. This thing is quality. The seams, epoxy, paint are excellent. The aluminum case is my only complaint as the threads are a little course. If you are curious about tenkara fishing, or know what your doing and want a beater rod, put money back in your pocket and go Maxcatch. My buddy with the 200 dollar entry level brand name tenkara is not happy. My Maxcatch is every bit, or more than his tenkara.

No reason to spend more.
This is my 2nd Tenkara rod and was substantially less expensive than my first.. I purchased this brand out of curiosity. After using it, I found "The name brand" rod essentially performed no better than this substantially less expensive one. It made me wonder why I had spent so much on the other. Trying to find fault with this rod, I found it is a bit heavier on a scale. In theory my arm could tire out a bit sooner. In use I didn't notice the extra weight. For my use that little extra weight isn't worth triple this price. The 3rd from the top section has the nice unsanded spiral finish like old Fenwick and Sage rods. Probably IM6 Graphite 2 construction. I'm assuming this different composition piece was chosen to get the desired 7:3 action. I'd really like to see a Tenkara rod entirely unsanded like that section. The case is really high quality as is the rod sock if you care about that sort of thing.

Great rod for the price!
Got these for our kids to start Tenkara fishing on. These are great rods, especially for the price! The quality is outstanding and even comes with the rod cast and sock like my $200 brand one! They are nice and responsive and our kids were able to catch multiple sunnies on the first day using these rods! Over all if you are new to Tenkara fishing and looking for a good starter rod, this one is for you!

EXCELLENT Combo!
Excellent Combo! Took it out today for the first time.. Has the basics for EVERYTHING in the kit. You can add flies and extra lines etc. but this kit will get you catching fish. It has great feel and worked great on the rainbow and tiger trout i was wrestling this morning. The cork grip is great, the furled leader with the ring makes casting and changing tippet easy. Case is very handy! Excellent small water rod. Amazing reach with something so simple.. I think it would be a great way to introduce kids to the basics of fly presentation and playing a fish on light leaders..

Excellent Product
I purchased this 13' Maximumcatch 4 years ago and feel obligated to write a review as I have recommended it verbally to MANY fellow fishermen since I purchased it. VERY well crafted in a quality sleeve and hard case, at a surprisingly great price. I have done little to no conventional rod/reel fly fishing since purchasing this Tenkara rod that is especially effective in mid sized rivers as well as lake shore fishing when the fish are cruising the shore lines. I had always wondered with no reel to play larger fish, how would the thin tip of my 13' Tenkara hold up to a larger fish? The extreme flexibility of the tip redistributes the force away from your line and hook and enabled me to land a 3 lb carp. (However, carelessly bend the tip too acutely and it will break) Enjoy!

the customer service truly went the extra mile to ensure that I was satisfied. In terms of the product
This product receives 5 stars is the quality of the customer service. When I had a problem, the customer service truly went the extra mile to ensure that I was satisfied. In terms of the product, it's the best deal for the money. It comes with everything that you need to go out there and fly fish tenkara-style. Although other products may be higher quality, you will spend an unnecessary lot more money because you have to buy it piece by piece (which will probably cost at least $150-200 more) plus the trouble of buying the correct products individually. There are other sets out there, but they are also more expensive and I am not sure if they can match the quality of PRIME service as well as the customer service of Maxcatch. They really try to make sure that you are happy with their product. Tenkara fly fishing is not magic--you may not catch, and you may be more disappointed if you ended up paying a lot more money.Update on 3/17/2016: I had a small problem (not the fault of the company), and they immediately took care of the problem with a replacement part that they are shipping to me. They responded within the same day in all of these cases. Honestly, I think that you are paying for a good rod but excellent, beyond the call of duty customer service!

Versatile Rod
I purchased the 10'8"/11'8"/12'9" telescoping rod and combo kit. I was surprised when I received the package and found everything I would need to get started. The price was right for me to experiment to see if Tenkara fishing was a new way for me to fish. Having been a life long flyfisher, I decided to give it a try. I have only fished my local lake so far but I have been impressed with the ease of casting and being able to hit my target almost immediately. So far I have caught numerous bluegills but I am going to the Kern River in the near future to try it on the river. Being able to telescope the rod is very helpful to fish areas less accessible on the lake due to tulles and low hanging trees. I highly recommend this set up if you have never tried Tenkara fishing. It is the cheapest way to see if you will like it. The rod's construction is very impressive. I give it two thumbs up.

In my experience, don't buy.
This was supposed to be my next Tenkara rod. On my very first camping trip with it when I was moving from one spot to another I was trying to collapse it and it would not. Two sections got stuck together even though I did not pull hard on them when I was expanding them. I tried to twist, etc. They were just stuck. Eventually section 2 broke after me trying to collapse it. I was upset, but hey it's just another trip I did not get to fish on.Then I wrote to the manufacturer to see if I can replace them. No answer, apparently no warranty.
