SE 5 X 2" Glass Lens Folding Magnifier with Leather Pouch

I bought this for my dad for when he has to look at small things at work. He had one when I was little but was never able to find a new one in any retail store. When I found this I knew he would love it so I picked it up for him. It magnifies pretty darn good and has a glass lens so you don't have to worry about scratches. The folding design makes it easy to store in your pocket preventing scratches and being less bulky. Over all a really good product. Hopefully they stay in stock so I can keep getting them for him if he ever loses it or it somehow breaks.

The magnifying glass is very effective, although I have no way to confirm that it actually is 5 power; I suspect it is somewhat less powerful, but it still works for me. I'm older, so my vision isn't what it once was, particularly for things like tiny print ("mouse type") on things like medicine bottles and maps. This magnifier takes care of my problem. We are about to travel in Europe and will be dealing with maps with small print. This magnifier takes up almost no room in a pocket, the glass lens is pretty scratch resistant and is protected in its sleeve on top of that. Long story short is that with this in my pocket I will not be frustrated by being unable to read street names in tiny print. With this magnifier I can read them easily, whether it really is 5 power or slightly less; doesn't matter because the damn thing works.

Bought a couple of these and many are complete junk. This is a solid tool I use every day and am glad I finally paid the few bucks extra for a solid metal frame.

It's perfectly functional for an old guy like me that needs a magnifier to read pill jars etc. I haven't tried to scratch it with a Rockwell tester but the lens looks, feels, and sounds like glass to me, so I am hoping it will last a while and not scratch. It is a clear, distortion-free (pretty sure it's glass) lens. The magnification isn't great (it's 3x (says so on the box), not the 5x it says on the Amazon description) but I can read a pill container so that's my acid test.Bottom line: It is well worth the 3 bucks.

Title said "leather pouch", but there isn't any leather on the thing. I could've bought the same thing for 25% less had I known that. This kind of false listing is becoming more and more prevalent with stuff on Amazon these days. Anyway, it seems like the lens will do the trick. It magnifies fine. There's a lot of glare on the lens; I'm usually seeing a reflection of my face on it.

Nice pocket magnifier, glass lens. However it does NOT have a leather cover--it's leatherette, which is vinyl. I ordered it because I expect a leather cover to last longer than plastic. We shall see. It was advertised as having a leather cover, and this is not true!
