an original, great point and click murder mystery
While most people who still play the ps1 may only know horror games such as resident evil or silent hill, Clock Tower is a highly underrated game that is sure to terrify you, and a great sequel to the original snes classic.the story follows a young girl named Jennifer who a year ago escaped the clutches of the murderous and demonic serial killer the sissorman by killing him, but now he seems to have returned, but how can he after his own death, so surely someone else has taken up the murderous role and is after Jennifer. you must find out who it is before your suffer death at the blades of his giant scissors. By playing as up to 5 different characters, Jennifer and her friends Helen, Nolen, Gotts and prof.barton you must survive through 3 scenarios as you hunt for clues, solve puzzles and attempt to escape the sissorman.the game is a point and click game which may sound bad but actually its works really well because the control is very responsive and gives you a bigger sense of vulnerability. the graphics aren't anything special but for the ps1 in 1996, there pretty decent, while the character models aren't great and are rather laughable for some of them the environments are very good looking for the time. while mostly the game is silent , when the music is used its for great effect. the tense foreboding creates a chilling atmosphere and the horrifying sissorman chase theme will keep you on the edge of your seat. only bad is that the voice acting is dreadful in this game.the horror aspect is certainly present in the game by creating a Erie atmosphere with lighting and music. each scenario will have you exploring an area looking for clues and items to help you escape and progress in the game, all while running away and hiding from the sissorman. the story and characters you play as can be different with each new game since the many choices you can make effect things drastically such as what character you play as and what place you to, and what story elements will happen, the game offers a total of 10 different endings which is were the games replay value lies, while that may seem a poor excuse for replay value because it is in some cases were only a slight difference to what item you pick up or not will give a different ending, in other cases its not because by replaying the game and making different choices it can take you to different levels with different story elements.overall the game is rather good, while not as great as resident evil or silent hill its does stand out for having a very different type of horror element and a very different game play style that is sure to give you a fright. I do recommend this game but only if you can get it for a good price since the pal version is rather rare and will most likely go for a high price, try get it as cheap as possible were you can.GAMEPLAY: 9/10GRAPHICS: 7/10MUSIC/SOUND:5/10FEAR FACTOR: 9/10OVERALL: 8/10 - pretty goodHope This review was helpful!

Not for everybody but great stalk and slash fun!
This game is not for everybody but if you like games such as Broken sword etc this is the game for you.You play the innocent varied characters in the game trying to solve the recent spate of murders occuring across Norway. The serial killer committing them goes by the name `Scissorman.`Depending on how you play the game there are about a douzand different endings. Some terrifying and a couple of happy ones. The identity of the killer too will also leave you surprised.Great game if you hazve patience.

Clock Tower
Although pretty bog standard graphics the game has an excellant plot with 5 playable characters and 10 different endings. The game is always fall of surprises with the scissorman always jumping out at you from different places, you never play the same game twice. I enjoyed this game a lot and am going to try and get hold of the sequel.

Clock Tower
The first in the hugely undemanding 'Clock Tower' trilogy is easily the best with its original scares, believable characters and an interesting story featuring Playstation's first serial-killer...Scissorman! Set in the late '90s in Oslo, Norway (I know, strange place for a slasher flick) you play as 5 characters who all associate with the main protanagist Jennifer Simpson, who was one of the survivors from the 'Clock Tower Murders' last year and also one of the playable characters, as they discover that Scissorman is not what he's cracked up to be as they search all over Oslo in search of the secret behind the 'Scissorman' curse. Although the visuals are muddled (filled with graphical glitches and undemanding characteristics) and the dumb American-style voice-overs and dialogue get very tedious, they surprisingly help the flow of the game move smoothly while the soundtrack picks up useful tips from classic slashers like 'Halloween', 'Friday the 13th' and 'Scream'. The point 'n' click method (used in the Broken Sword games) gives it a nice touch too, even if it does gets a little confused sometimes, and the promised '10 endings' give it that much needed replayability that most games don't feature. Like I said, Clock Tower is easily the best (and graphically the worst) and games like this don't come very often so enjoy this ambitious and quite scary slasher because you might not see another one like it.
