Aqua Medic Turboflotor 1000 Blue Hang-On Skimmer

Works very well, pulls a lot more from the water compared to my prism that i had prior. A good buy. Just be sure you have the collection cup seated well prior to turning it back on after emptying the cup or it will seep out as there is no O-ring to seal it. (relies on compression)Also there is one thing that just popped into mind...the pump they give you does not match what is on the directions, so mounting it is a bit troublesome... to keep my explanation simple, the suction cups are on the bottom of the pump and the inlets are on the top, so there is no way to mount the pump on the glass below the skimmer as the dirctions say...luckly it was in my sump so i just used somthing to prop up the pump...Id be pissed if i was trying to install it in my display tank as there is no possible way to do so...at least not with the pump that came with mine....

I purchased this as a hang-on skimmer. It would be better advertised as in sump only. As a hang-on you haven't any options for placement of the large in-tank pump,as well as the return tube. You do not receive any extra fittings that would alow you to be versital. If you are like me, you don't want any part of the skimmer to be visible, which is difficult with this unit. The skimmer I purchased didn't work when I first turned it on. I called the store where I made the purchase . The ''expert technicion'' wasn't any help at all. He actually made the experiance worse. I pulled the pump apart and found a burr on the impellar which I shaved off. I am getting salt creep from three different places on the skimmer, that really should not show any. As far as skimming action, it does a very good job, better than I expected

I chose this skimmer after reading reviews online. After it breaks in, I don't have any complaints. It's not as easy to set up because the directions suck. It was a little noisy at first and created a lot of tank bubbles, but after about a month and slight tweaking, it works great.

The best HOB skimmer I've ever used. Others are not even close.

I jest got this skimmer as a replacement for the Tropic Marine 800 and as of yet it seams to work well I found the Tropic Marine skimmer did not work at all and could not get on with it as I have only jest set up the Turboflotor 1000 I can not comment on how good it is in skimming but once it has been running for a week I will repost my findings and let you all know.

I did a lot of looking around before putting this on my wish-list. This thing is whisper quiet and well put together. The only problem I have is I am using it as a HOT and my tank has a lip that the skimmer bracket cannot fit over so I have it resting on the top. Along with that my tank did not have enough space on the back so it sits on the side. Not sure if I am doing something wrong, but I had to disassemble the included pump and remove a rubber bushing that was preventing the needle wheel from spinning on the side of the pump lock. The collection cup comes with a removable screw plug so you don't have to cut a hole to attach a drain hose. Adjustment is SO SIMPLE. There is a flow regulator you just turn which allows you to make minute to major adjustments. Very happy with this skimmer.

I have used the smaller Turboflotor 500 before and liked it so I purchased this one after a tank upgrade. The bigger the better, this thing pulls so much dark "skum" out. It Did take a couple weeks before the bubbles stopped spilling out of the skimmer into my tank but now there is no tiny bubbles coming out anymore and seems to keep working better the longer I have it. It does take a little tuning to get the perfect foam but that should be expected.
