Electricity Demystified, Second Edition

This is an "okay" book. The author is a substandard teacher!
I am rating Electricity Demystified as just an "okay" book because of the author's infuriating marketing ploy that forces readers to go to his website to get explanations for the chapter quiz answers, when that explanatory information was insufficiently presented in the "lessons" in his book.Readers should not be forced to go to the author's website to get an understanding of information that ought to have been included in the body of the lessons!Until I stumbled upon the explanations on the author's website, I was so annoyed with the author's poor teaching presentation that I was very tempted to return this book for a refund, as I previously returned his prior edition for a full refund! The author's "read my website to learn what you ought to have learned in my book" marketing ploy is infuriating!Other than that major inconvenience/annoyance, I am learning a lot from the quiz answer explanations on the website, so will keep the book and rate it four stars, although tempted to rate it three stars, when it could and should have been five stars.

A great book to start with!
What a great book! This book is great for those looking for a refresher course or for those that are just staring out in electricity and electronics. At first glance, this book may seem a bit brief, but for someone trying to learn this subject for the first time, the material is presented really well so that the beginner will be able to understand it. I highly recommend this book, instead of purchasing any of those long and lengthy expensive textbooks. I strongly suggest any of Stan's books, he does a great job explaining material in the easiest of ways to understand.

Not easy going.
Deals with the material at an adequate level for somebody approaching the subject for the first time, but it is not pleasant prose and it occasionally discusses subjects without bothering to explain first what they are. This makes it way more difficult than it should be.

This is a GOOD book.
This book was and continues to be exactly what I hoped it would be – a clear and well-worded explanation of electricity. It's a force that's so important to our daily lives, yet (I suspect) most of us have only a vague notion about it, flickering images of half-remembered school text books. I wanted to know more about it just for my own information, not in order to augment my professional life but just to keep me up-to-date with reality. Electricity DeMYSTIFIED is helping me to get there.

Not the best book if you are a complete layperson and looking to get your mind introduced to basic concepts.
I tinker a lot and usually am the person left to fix small things in the office and home, I never balk at reading a manual. Lately decided to read about basic electrical concepts and wanted to start with a primer on electricity, this is not it. Not saying the book is bad but not great for layperson. Looking for more theory and definition before I get into formulas and even basic electrical math. Glad I didn't pay much for this book. Going to get what I can out of it but looking for another book already.

I like this book
It's always good practice to get information from multiple sources. I'm using this as my review book for the first part of an electronics course that I'm taking. There is another book in the series called Electronics Demystified that I'm using for a review of more advanced topics.

Not practical
This looks like a good book if you are studying to be an electrical engineer. He doesn’t even explain volt meters and how to use the different functions and how they can be used to troubleshoot problems. He tells how to build a transformer, along with yet more algebraic equations. He doesn’t tell you how you would suspect and test a bad transformer. If I need a transformer I will buy one, not build one. If I ask what time it is I don’t want somebody telling me how to build a clock,. There’s not much real world, practical information. And if you can’t memorize dozens of abbreviations and work algebraic equations don’t bother.

mixed feelings
Mixed bag. The DC section is understandable and helpful, as are the first chapters of AC. Then, when the discussion turns to power supplies and how AC is turned to DC, things turn sour. You are literally just presented with the term "capacitor" which drops out of the blue sky. No prior explanation as to what a capacitor is. In the next couple of pages more and more terms just drop out of the sky, and, realistically you just have to commit these things to memory, no chance of actually understanding it.The book concludes with a magnetism section, which is decent and understandable.I have really mixed feelings about this book; it did help me but could have been much better.
