Great movie

Not every one will enjoy a movie of this type. It is especially of interest if you are a student of Russian history or Russian movies. This particular movie is shown to all cosmonauts before their flight into space. It is a tradition and good luck event. It has nothing to do with space flight. It has been said that those who have not viewed this film before flight have met an untimely death. When my wife and I visited Baikonur city in Kazakhstan and stayed overnight in the cosmonaut living facility, we were also made to watch the whole movie while being treated to unusual Russian snacks.

Very funny adventure and fun to watch. You have the choice to watch it in Russian with English subtitles, or you can watch it with the sound dubbed into English. The dubbed version is actually quite well done. Naturally, if you lip read, the mouth movements aren't going to match, but the dialog does track with the action, and the voices do match the characters.

Fantastic film, and rhe English overdub is really entertaining. "COMRADE GIRLS!" Don't ever talk about the obvious propaganda with your Russian friends, though. This is like their national film or something, and "every Russian like." If you love movies this is a must see.

White Sun of the Desert is classic comedy/action in the same vein as Raiders of the Lost Ark, but with the ironic and sometimes dark Soviet (not Russian) humor. It features historical (WWI) ideology and American spaghetti-Western comical aspects.It should be considered by all film lovers, and take it's place in the annals of Movie lore.

I read about the tradition of cosmonauts watching this movie before a launch. I was curious to see what kind of movie had become the one to watch before launch. Much to my surprise, it has nothing to do with space or science even, but is a tale of survival and adventure. But then again, space travel is a tale of survival and adventure, too!

I cannot tell anyone what this movie means to me. Let me just say that while I don't understand but a word or two of the Russian language the humor in the movie saves the day. I bought the movie for sentimental reasons and will cherish it.

I have seen better movies from the russian civilwar. And I like them. But where can I get them?

Voici un film que j'adore. Les paysage, la musique (surtout), l'histoire... Je ne m'en lasse pas.Pour ceux qui voudraient découvrir un beau film de la période communiste de l'époque ou "communisme" n'était pas un mot péjoratif...

Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit dem erhaltenen Produkt. Kann keine erkennbaren Mängel oder ähnliches sichtbar. Es könnte nicht besser sein.

Un film mythique en Russie venu tout droit de la période soviétique. Un film culte avec un jeu d'acteur hors du commun. Du vrai cinéma. Comme on en voit rarement maintenant.Faites comme les cosmonautes avant de s'envoler pour l'espace: oubliez tout en regardant "white sun of the desert".
