The Complete Idiot's Guide to Chemistry, 3rd Edition

If you're struggling with Chemistry, this is the book to get! I recently finished General Chemistry in college. I passed, but I didn't feel confident about going into Chemistry 2 next semester. I'm now halfway into this book, and I feel as if I learned more in the past few days than I did the entire semester.Why is this book better than just reading a textbook? The author uses easy to understand language and real world examples that makes learning Chemistry simple and fun.Why is this book better than the for Dummies book? For every new concept that you learn throughout the book, the author gives you several math problems for you to practice, while the Dummies book does not do this. This book also contains more of what you need to know, and less of what you don't need to know. The For Dummies book had many chapters dedicated to things that you will not find in a college Chemistry class (air pollution, top ten chemistry nerds, etc.). When you're trying to cram everything that you would need to know from a huge textbook into a small easy to understand book, you don't want to waste your time reading filler. The Complete Idiot's Guide pretty much covers all of the major concepts that you would find in a college chemistry textbook.However, this book is obviously not going to completely substitute your textbook. The math problems are not as complex, and it doesn't go into as much detail as you are going to need to get an A in college. It is a great book to read in addition or prior to reading a textbook, because it makes learning the concepts much easier.

My daughter purchased this with her own money. Her 8th grade teacher recommended it, and she said it helped her understand things she didn't even realize she needed help with. It increased her confidence in her abilities for Chemistry. She did extremely well in Chemistry, but I couldn't tell you just how much the book had to do with that. She has a 'math and science' brain. If your child struggles working independently, or out of books this may require you to sit with them. Wish I had purchases it for my older kids, and will be keeping it for my younger ones to use. I really like these "Idiot" guides, we have several school subjects and they are very helpful. However, Youtube might be a better option for "non-book" learners. I will purchase more subject books as they are needed.

I enrolled in a college organic chemistry course and used this book to review all the topics covered in general chemistry. The book is very well written and gives some very good examples to study with. There are a few typos, but overall I feel very satisfied with this purchase and would comfortably recommend it to others.

Really enjoyed this book! I wanted something that would start to explain some of the fundamentals of chemistry. It had a few spots above my head that made me have to do some more looking stuff up but all in all I liked the book.

This book was very helpful for my high school student when he was taking chemistry.

I teach high school chemistry so I am always looking for reference books that present concepts and ideas in a different manner from the textbook we use. It is also handy to have an expanded library of example problems and example tests. This book appeared to meet what I was looking for,
