Carrier Warfare in the Pacific: An Oral History Collection

A Great Generalist Oral History
This book was first loaned to me by the son of Admiral Miller (whose recounting the story of training the Doolittle Raiders is included within). The book was so engrossing that I tracked down a copy to purchase and add to my library. It is all there: Staff Officer Politics, Naval Architecture, Naval Warfare, Aerial Combat and much much more. It is quite the eye-opener. Your efforts to obtain a copy will be rewarded.

Carriers of the Essex class
I liked this book because 1) It gave a true account of Carrier War in the Pacific and 2) it was the oral history of officers and enlisted men who took part in the battles. In 1963-64, I served as a CIC Watch Officer on the U.S.S. Bennington (CVS-20) and am presently a docent on the U.S.S Hornet (CVS-12). Both were among the 24 carriers of the Essex class, which was the major class of carriers during WWII. Some were built in 16 months. The design and engineering were excellent.

A must read
The book is a great first hand account of the air war in the Pacific as told by the men who did the fighting.
