But for those six months it was the best knife I have ever owned
Had this knife for about six months. Then it mysteriously disappeared. But for those six months it was the best knife I have ever owned. I've carried buck knives, smith & wesson, cheap generic ones. But none meet the functionality of this one. It was razor short out of the package, well built and good looking. The bamboo scales make it lighter than it looks which means it's more comfortable to carry. I like the size as I have big hands but some may think it's a little too big. It locks up well and folds back comfortably. It never got rust on it in 6 months of carry and every day use. The marlin spike is fantastic. You won't believe the uses you'll find for it. I'm ordering another, and intend to carry it until it falls apart.

Great knife, great gift.
I received one of these knives as a gift and immediately fell in love with the feel and performance. I have since gifted them to a few sailor pals who can appreciate and use a tool of this caliber. The quality cannot be appreciated without holding it in your hand. I have a few knives in my various toolbags, with some being mine for over 50 years. But I find myself treating this one with much more respect, as if it's a work of art rather than a tool. I need to get over that and just start using it like any other knife. But the look, feel, and blade quality make me hesitate to put it in harms way. It's almost too nice to use---but I'll get over it one day and use it to open a paint can.

Good solid blade; solid locks
The quality expected for Camillus; feels a bit different in the hand than other knives, but well-made and strong locking mechanisms on blade and marlinspike. Much lighter than I expected, but that's nice when I may have to cover a lot of territory.

Bought as a "Thank You" present, and the captian loves it!
If it were possible, I'd actually give this a 4.5 stars. The blade is sharp and a good length, and the marlin spike is of great size. I love how everything locked when open. However, while trying to learn how to unlock the marlin spike, I somehow chipped off some of the black coating. It isn't noticeable, but know that it is possible for the coating to be scratched away. Still, I've tried to scratch more away to test it, and haven't been able to again. (Perhaps it came like this and I didn't notice.)My only other wish is that the knife locked while down in its holder. But I don't find it that big of a deal- I tried to 'flick' the knife out, and it really does have to have some light pressure puling on it to pop out. I'm not super worried about there being no lock down option.Overall, a fantastic knife. I picked this over others because of the size and the design. It's simply beautiful, much better than simple metal ones! The blade is surprisingly sharp right out of the box, and I didn't have any problems with any joints or bolts being sticky or hard to move! I think you'll love this product.

A well made sailors knife.
This knife is a welcome tool on my sailboat. The Marlin Spike is shaped perfect for use in undoing tight knots that are weathered. The Marlin Spike also locks rigid, and is easy to unlock. The blade came very sharp, and as everyone who works with rope knows...its straight cutting edge is an asset to cut line quickly without fray.

Buy a vintage one
I have two of the classic camillus knives that were my dads. Beautiful and strong knives that went around the globe numerous times.I bought this newer design so I can preserve my father’s knives. This thing leaves a lot to be desired. Side by side this newer knife feels like what it is, modern mass produced crap. The lanyard hoop rattles around and can bend easily. The way the layers of the knife are held together by hex screw hardware that can come loose is suboptimal. I should have simply purchased a vintage one on eBay for 15$ more. I guarantee one vintage camillus would out last three of these newer ones. I left three stars because it does the job but not for long. Certainly not worth the 50 plus dollars from my viewpoint seeing what camillus used to offer.

What a Knife!
This is a beautiful functional piece. Ok this is a Mariners knife made for working with rope. Bamboo handle and titanium blades. I don't understand the metallurgy, but this knife is light to carry and incredibly sharp. Makes a beautiful cut on Manila rope. I have to tell you the thing I was most worried about when I ordered it was the Marlin spike. You hear horror stories about folding marlinspikes. I was worried that it would feel flimsy or break. Not the case here. It is so firm it took me a few minutes to figure out how to close it. I used it the first week to untie a nasty knot and it went in slick and did the job in no time. Really great knife.
