Leca Clay Orchid/Hydroponic Grow Media - 4 lbs.

For Phal orchids, best medium I ever tried. No wonder professional growers use this because it promotes quick drainage and roots don't stay wet for extended period. My orchid collection is really thriving. With these you have to water more often, but that's no problem. My phal orchids bloom year-round with thick healthy roots everywhere. Super pleased. Also no more problem with fungul/bacterial infections, insects, etc.

Product came quickly and was packaged well for shipping. Very little dust, easy to rinse and use right away. Almost no broken pieces and a very good variety of sizes. perfect for my orchids in Semi-Hydo. Will buy again!

It was hard to visualize how much 4lbs is for this. It would have helped if they listed it in volume rather than by weight. Some other listings would tell you how many of the 4" or 5" pots it would fill which helps to visualize the volume. So far I have filled three (3) 4" pots and I have still some leca left that maybe can fill 2 or 3 more 4" pots.The leca balls have different sizes ranging from approximately 0.3" to 0.5".Overall, the product is great and I think it is cheaper than other listings.

I purchased these after doing some research on converting my orchids (phals) to semi-hydro using clay beads such as these. I decided to go for it and purchased 2 bags. I must say my orchids are so much easier to care for now. It takes so much of the guess work out of watering. The only down side is that the leca is SO dusty out of the packaging. I have to wash the leca repeatedly before it can be used. I am not aware if this is just the nature of clay beads, but be prepared. I bought two bags and washed them repeatedly in a large bucket outside until the water was almost clear. Other than that hassle, they work really well!

I’m giving it 5 stars because these are my first LECA I’ve ever used. They seem to be doing great things for my plants and I don’t use a lot of it so it was a decent amount. I will say this though, they are filthy dirty. I had to wash them ten times before using. For word of caution. I’m sure each batch has their imperfections as well so not every single ball is gonna be perfectly round. There are arguments on how it’s better to use perfectly circular ones or weird shaped ones so do your research. Not all of them are the same sizes and look differently. They seem to work for me. They’re not as brightly colored as the pictures of the ad.

I am transitioning my Orchid collection over to semi-hydroponic, and have usually paid nearly 10 dollars for a 2 pound sack at the local aquarium store. This purchase gives me twice as much for an additional 5 dollars. This lecca is a bit dusty, so it needs to be washed off, but that is the only negative I can think of. I am sure it will suit my orchid needs. I would buy again, and recommend for those in my situation!I used all the last bag and bought another bag. This is a great deal. I like how the individual pieces are large, and some are not uniformly shaped, which makes better air flow to the roots.

Item was as expected. Some pebbles were small and fell through slits in net pots that I used them in. Was enough to fill 12 4 inch net pots and a 6 inch net pot.
