Great present for someone who’s NOT in Brazil
I bought this as a present for a Brit who loves to cook. I’m Brazilian so I wanted a book that had the “basics” - different from other also great book such as D.O.M and the one from Thiago Castanheiro which are more chef-like with hard to find ingredients if you’re not in Brazil. This book has all! Feijoada, acarajé, caipirinha, pé-de-moleques, empadão de frango, rabada, pastel, pão de queijo and much more with ingredients you can mostly find in any major supermarket (some like cassava you might need to go to an African/South American shop). Definitely worth it and after my extensive research on Brazilian cookbooks in English, this was the best by far.

very pricey for the number of actual recipes
128 pages in all, the recipes don't start until page 20 and the last one is on page 125. Each of the 5 sections starts with a double page spread of picture & comment before you get into the recipes themselves. Then most of the recipes are on a 2 page spread. This means you end up with very few actual recipes for the price. For example, the meat & poultry section has 10 recipes! Would not recommend if you are looking for a good range of Brazilian cuisine!

the food and cooking of brazil
Lovely book, good quality, very well put together with information about Brazil, it's people and cooking history. The recipes and photographs are reassuring and supportive for those (like me) who are new to this fabulous food. This book has not become an 'ornament', it is earning it's keep and worth every penny. Watching a utube of Fernando cooking Feijoada prompted me to make this purchase.

That girl from Ipanema doesn't just look good ...
Brazilian cooking is just so different. It's not just the mixture of tastes but the mixture of textures as well. Feijoada is to die for and Couve a Mineira is the answer for all those kids that won't eat their greens!
