Whitehall Products Balmoral Mailbox, Black

First, I'll say that I love this mailbox! It's elegant and very large. I just wish I could have used it, but unfortunately, I had to return it.I had already purchased and installed (in concrete) a metal pole from a different company. When the mailbox arrived, I hoped it'd be fairly simple to install, but the holes in the mailbox didn't match at all to the holes drilled in the support on the already-installed post. I went to my local home improvement store to see if I could get some kind of adapter, and I did find a universal plate, but it still looked like I would have to drill holes in metal, and I didn't think I could do that. (Having never set anything in concrete before, that was a lot for me, and drilling extra holes isn't in my skillset).I researched this mailbox to see if there was any other solution, and it seems to be made to fit on a very specific pole arrangement from the same company, so I decided to return it. But the return went super-smoothly, so kudos to Whitehall and to Amazon. I did UPS pickup, and my UPS guy was there the next day to pick it up with no hiccups at all.I'll also say that I purchased this from Amazon Warehouse, so I was a little worried about the condition it might be in (knowing it was a previous return), but it arrived in perfect condition! So I'm very pleased about that.Overall, it was a great experience and it was a nice mailbox, it just didn't fit my post.

I have post where the mailbox sits on a arm sticking out 90 deg from the vertical post. Just like the pictures used in the Amazon advertisement. This excellent mailbox is not designed for that. The bottom of the mailbox is indented an inch and in the middle is square shape metal flange designed to be mounted to the top of a vertical post. To modify it for my use I got one inch thick plywood, cut out two little rectangles and glued them to the bottom of the mailbox (one on either side of the flange). I then drilled a few holes thru the wood and the aluminum bottom. To screw the mailbox to the post arm I used 3.5 inch screws with washers. You have to turn the screws by putting your arm inside the mailbox which introduces challenges depending how strong you are. You don't have allot of push-down leverage.

LOVE our new mailbox. Recommend buying the matching Balmoral post as we bought the black steel Hamilton from Home Depot and had to do a significant amount of monkeying around with a couple composite boards to fit the 6” x 6” square hole pattern.We went with the number placard from Lowe’s to match our neighbors.If doing it again I would have bought the full customized set with gold numbers and last name. Unfortunately we had already set the post in two bags of concrete so we didn’t really have a choice.

So far, I have nothing but good things to say about this mailbox. I also ordered two oval number plaques for the box, but I ordered them from an American family company. There were too many bad reviews about the Balmoral number plaques having crooked numbers. They had to be sent back and re manufactured. I guess they have no quality control that would check them before sending them out to a customer. The " made in America plaques I got were perfect ".

I cant believe what the mail person can fit in this thing. shipping boxes that look like gift boxes for dress shirts, a gallon jug of water, I mean, since the post office started delivering more of the UPS deliveries, we see more and more boxes being stuffed in this beauty! And it is a beauty. Metal with magnetic closure, everyone that sees it wants to know where I got it.

Nicely built mailbox. Solid construction. Big enough for all those Amazon packages. Magnetic closure fastens well, but is easy to open. There are 5 holes in the bottom for mounting to a post, shelf, or ledge, but hardware is not included. I recommend getting 2" x 1/4" brass screws, washers, and nuts from your favorite hardware store.
