The Other Bible

Much information in one volume.
Having a large amount of material in one book is convenient. I am a very keenly active student to religion. The history of the early Christian church in particular.I have only just begun to get into the text.

Glued binding
I did not realistically expect anything but a glued binding, but one can hope. I had hoped it might be bound with sewn signatures like a good-quality Bible. That way the pages lie flat and it will last for decades. I am giving only four stars because it is just glue. As for the content itself, I think other reviewers have covered that well enough.

A Bible with answers you've been looking for in your King James but aren't there.
I love researching for answers about my bible and my religious beliefs. I would highly recommend this book. I found answers to questions I have been wondering about for the last 50 years of my life. Churches should include chapters in this book for study groups. It isn't part of the bible because back in the day these old codgers (old men) wanted certain things removed or I should say not to be included. This selection had nothing to do with the God-inspired writings. It was just a group of people wanting to control the people and to determine what they wanted you to know. It is an excellent companion to the Bible. You will be so surprised at the things you have been missing that are in this book. Great book, hightly suggest you buy it, you won't regret it.

The Great Truth
I love reading about the Bible and the Truth - by the way, the truth for me, is in the Other Bible and not the Christian Bible - the Christian Bible only holds half-truths - never stop learning, never accept any religious teachings as the whole truth and the only truth... keep searching and know that when you find the TRUTH, your soul will know it... The Gnostics where alive and well when the Church was formed, they were considered the scholars of the times... the Truth that Jesus came to tell us was not for all - read the bible and you will see that he said this very thing - some are not ready to know the truth and for them he spoke in parables - but to those who were capable of understanding, he told the truth... many of the Church fathers chose to give only the partial truth to the people and thus we have the Christian Bible - never stop learning, when your soul recognizes the truth, it will make sense to you, there will be no doubt because it is logical... ;-)

A magnificent source work for the intellectual intuitive
I personally found this to be an incredibly useful resource at a very reasonable price. Here, in one book, is the actual gnostic and hermetic source material for your ready reference and deep contemplative study. One great benefit of such a one-volume text is that you cannot help but to see the common "golden thread" that runs through all of the great mystical traditions. From the Egyptian Hermetics, to the Manicheans, to the Essenes, to the Jewish Kaballists, to the Neoplatonists, to the Christian Gnostics- all these mystics were in Resonance with a higher common Source. When you start to ponder these texts you will either find them to be obscure, nonsensical, and unreadable, or if you are ready, you will intuitively apprehend and "recollect" a great treasury of Wisdom emanating from the Source. It is all a matter of whether or not you have discovered that there is another higher, intuitive manner of gaining knowlege, other than the narrow analytical, materialist approach. If you are intrigued by this concept, you might find _The Only Tradition_ by Quinn to be informative, if not transformational.

Excellent research source
I had bought this book over 10 years ago and loved it. However, a colleague borrowed it but never returned it so I eventually ordered a new copy. I am a genealogist and as such am always on the lookout for research sources. Access to transcripts of the texts that "didn't make the cut" when the Council of Nicaea (AD 325) met not only to agree on religious dogma but to decide which texts the Christians would endorse in their "new" religion is very valuable to my research. Partial or edited sources are to be avoided in my line of work.As it turned out though I was deeply annoyed, in the end my defaulting colleague ended up doing me a favor by forcing me to order another copy. I now have a newer updated edition.

Good stuff here
Tons of great material, interesting perspectives, fascinating stories. This is a collector's dream come true. Anyone interested in the Judeo/Christian mythology will love this book. It's extensively researched and well-written.The various chapters cover every aspect of the Judeo/Christian mythos. There are ancient Hebrew legends handed down verbally from generation to generation. There are Christian stories. The book contains apocrypha and esoterica galore! This is a book I display proudly in my office, along with similar books, for reference. I write a lot of fantasy stories and the Judeo/Christian myths are some of the best sources for such tales. This book, particularly, is a gold mine because it contains stories not commonly known. Truly fun stuff here. Well worth the price.
