If you really want to know how our bodies work, this is THE Book!
The most detailed book I have ever read, and not just for those with a PHD. The simple can clearly understand what is being taught in a way that is intriguing. This is the best book on the functions of our endocrine system and nervous system that I have ever read and has changed my life for the Better. A must have for anyone struggling with health problems and seem to have no hope in healing. This book may be the surprise you have been searching for. It was for me and many others that have read it!!!!

A VERY DIFFERENT perspective on health, and seems to be a good fit.
Like Karen says, if she does not explain (in an entertained way) why she recommends specific restrictions ( that are not for all, it depends on your situation), people are not stick to the diet because they are unable to understand the disruptive mechanisms she is trying to solve with the right diet. I enjoyed the book and picked up lots of good points that I am taking for my diet and lifestyle from now on. It is a VERY DIFFERENT perspective that seems to be a good fit for the majority if you want to get healthy. It works because it is designed to work for the human physiology.

Surprisingly simple, surprisingly sane. No gimmicks. No hype.
Like many, I was skeptical about what good this book could offer me personally. A friend recommended the book after I saw a drastic change in her health/health issues, and I was hopeful that there would be something helpful for me, too. I read the book and appreciated the simplicity and logical, systematic approach Karen Hurd offered. The format is as a case study/conversational dialogue between an ailing client, and Karen's explanation and advice along the client's road to recovery. This case study conversation covers the majority of the book, revealing Karen's nutritional philosophy/foundation with the how and why of her hypothesis. The last several chapters are 'variations on a theme' showcasing other personal testimonials with similarly related gastro-intestinal issues, giving a broader spectrum of issues addressed and their individual needs/treatments.I appreciate that Karen is not promoting expensive supplements and hard to find foods. I am encouraged that she is primarily interested in seeing people well, strong and healthy rather than accepting mediocre energy levels and mediocre lives. As someone who has been pursuing better health for many years and has purchased numerous books, supplements, vitamins, and consulted locally with a nutritionist -- finding this book, her website, and eventually becoming a client -- I am thankful, feeling significantly better, and looking forward to a stronger, healthier future. It's been almost 2 years since I first read this book, and I have never been sorry for heading down this nutrition road. Changing how you eat may not be easy, but it is not 'bad' -- it's truly been worth the changes. Thanks, Karen Hurd, for a helpful book!

ANY digestive issue, reflux included!
I had gastritis and severe digestive issues. I thought I knew so much about nutrition. Karen surprised me. She had me start by reading this to establish an understanding of her method. At first I didn't think it applied to me, because I never had Chron's or colitis or IBS or anything like that... but then I learned it's all closely connected. Read this, apply it, and heal for free. This is accessible to all. You do not need pricey meds, testing and therapies. Just heal with food. But Karen has some out of the ordinary stuff to say, so definitely read the book. I also recommend a personal appt with this nutritionist, for more specific attention to your circumstances. (I am not affiliated with Karen, and I gain nothing by recommending ger! Only the satisfaction of helping someone else!) Digestive issues can really put a damper on your whole life, and even encroach on your relationships. Fix your life- this is within your power and you do not need anything but knowledge. Let Karen help you. I cannot recommend this book enough!! And if you need Karen, google for her website. She has an office in Wisconsin and does phone appointments.

The absolute best at making sense advice!
Dr. Karen has helped so many close friends of mine including myself. Her book is easy to understand and I love the way she characterizes certain bodily functions! Lol To me it's so much common sense. It's not a funky diet or grueling exercise plan. I started with baby steps introducing beans into my diet and what a difference!Thank you Karen😊

What an amazing book!
Who would know that the majority of illness are due to what we put in our bodies? The way Karen describes the bile and journey of food and how the body uses and discards of toxins and unnecessary waste is well written, easily understandable and a pleasure to read. It has certainly changed my view of how my body copes with life. An insite that would enrich anyone's life who is having problems with their stomach. Definitely recommend

how food can bring miraculous healing
If you think this book is about people who are given a few vitamins and then quite incomprehensibly get well, think again! This book is the most magnificent account of how food alone can bring about miraculous healing in the body. Written in a discursive, easy to follow style, and drawing on the testimonies of people she has counselled, Karen explains how how by eating the right food some of the most common and terrible disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, ulceric colitis, IBS, fybromyalgia and general digestive disorders can be put right.a great read and a door to healing through a change in diet and lifestyle.

Comprehensive and easily understandable. Also life-changing!
I was amazed when I read this book. My daughter had had various health problems for some years, so we had experimented with different diets and approaches to healing through food. The two main subjects of; the importance of soluble fiber, and the role of the adrenal glands were eye-openers to me, and gave me answers that previous theories that I had read, did not. I also like her style of writing in a "story-telling" fashion, as it reads almost like a novel. The book is relevant to everyone, not just those with intestinal disorders, as these two topics are relevant to everyone on the planet! She writes in a way that is easy for the layman to understand, and answers the many questions that one may have, giving great detail on how the body works, so that you really can go forwards with an understanding of why it is good to eat this or that, and what it really does for you. She also advises on life-style, with regard to sleep, exercise and perfumes (and it is not all what you would expect!)Karen Hurd is pretty uncompromising in terms of what you should and should not eat, but that is because doing it her way makes the healing process POSSIBLE and EFFECTIVE. It was not soo hard for us to adapt to her advice, because we were already doing lots of weird stuff with food, and I had already given up caffeine etc. However, it might be difficult to adapt quickly, if you have never "done a diet" before. It's just a question of habits....Within three months, all intestinal disorders in my daughter were gone, and within 2 years, her other problems were much improved. They would have been completely gone, but she insists on cheating on the diet from time to time (teenager), and the results are thereafter.Everyone we know, who has followed Karen's plans for health, has experienced great health benefits, and we have now recommended her to many. All 6 of us in our family have experienced benefits first-hand.More info on various subjects can be found on her website, under topics, and under podcasts. All good stuff.

Very informative
Very informative book and written in lay man's terms so easy to understand how our own bodies work and what we need to do to help our bodies be the best they can. Karen knows her stuff that's for sure, I've seen plenty of nutritionists and I haven't ever had anything explained the way she explains it.
