Thanks to its included libretto and about 4,000 listenings, I still remember every single word within this brown covered gatefold LP, one of the greatest "soundtracks" ever released. In my opinion, this remains the best work of its famous authors.Once banned as sacriligious by the BBC (according to Ted Neely, the film Judas), in the U.S. JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR reached #1 on Billboard's 200. It represents a unique example of theater imitating vinyl. After selling millions of copies worldwide, what had only been a studio recording was expanded by lyricist Tim Rice and composer Andrew Lloyd Webber into a stageshow. After playing to sellout crowds again in many countries, "Superstar" was adapted to  film in 1973 . As a musician and also a Record Label exec, I've seen the musical trends come and go over the years. And what I've learned is that the music genres that cause the cash registers to ring furiously for a moment - don't always last. Today's superstar sounds surprisingly "dated" the following week, only to be replaced by the next flavor du jour. Jesus Christ Superstar - this studio album - has stood the test of time, perhaps partially because of the timeless story its centered around but also, in my opinion, because of the brilliant song-writing and performances assembled here. It's inspired me to create a live band to pay Tribute to this amazing music, which combines elements of Progressive Rock (there are definitely some King Crimson-esque moments in this album), Classical, Jazz and yes, Psychedelic or "Psych Rock"! After all, it was recorded in 1970, I believe, at a time when both Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles were still alive and Led Zeppelin and Yes were just getting started...a true collector's piece!

I was pleasantly surprised of the condition the record, booklet, and album cover were in especially considering the price I paid. It was like the seller said, "Like new." Now for the content. It's been years since I listened to this album in it's entirety. I agree with what other reviewers have said about this edition being the best one of Jesus Christ Superstar. I recall being inspired when I heard this album as a young Christian when it was first released. It helped me see Jesus Christ as a human being just like me. The entire opera is still inspiring and enjoyable for me today. My only disappointment with this great work is that it leaves out the resurrection of Jesus Christ which for me is a key component to the Christian faith. That said it does a nice job of putting the gospel narrative in a musical style that I enjoy.

This was advertised as a 2 disc set but only received Disc #1. I contacted Amazon, was unable to get Disc #2 from the seller but did receive a full refund. Overall very good service.

This is an extraordinary recording...a fresh - and very moving - interpretation of Jesus' last days, his crucifixtion and his reincranation. In the musical language of the 1960s.. Some would say the "SuperStar" label is blashphemous..That's missing the point. Jesus was - and is - the center of the spiritual lives of billions of people. Doesn't that count at "super" in the language of today's youth (or the rebellious youth of the 1960s?)In any event, for me at least, hearing the music (and conjuring up the scenes in my imagination) beat seeing the musical play, where the scenes were derived from somebody else's imagination.) That's not to say they were't brilliantly conceived. Just different.After all, Jesus Christ Superstar started out life as music... the musical play came later. As I listen to this CD, I find it hard to think that it is in fact 100% of the original.Although after my searching, and purchasing a total of three Jesus Christ Superstar CD sets, this is probably the closest you're going to get to the original. Many of the performers on this CD are the originals but some are not.After that being said, this is a very good Jesus Christ Superstar CD set and I thoroughly enjoy listening to it.

This is the classic version originally on LP.

Great CD If you belong to a singing group who are putting on a show and was encouraged to buy this as it also included Murray Head as part of their performance. Would recommended this to anyone either going to watch or taking part in Jesus Christ Superstar.
