The Riches: Season 2

Watch it anyway... just be prepared to be sad after the final episode of The Riches
This is the 3rd time I've marathon-watched The Riches (Seasons 1 and 2) and I always end up feeling like I've eaten a huge Chinese meal -- full but hungry for more. Like many other reviewers, I wonder what the reasoning was behind the cancellation. Especially in mid season with no finale; too many strings were left dangling, and too many intricate story lines were left hanging. As a viewer who felt intimately involved with each character's life, I feel cheated. The concept behind The Riches was brilliant and I can't think of any other series to compare it with. The Riches was a unique show about Travelers (more commonly known as Gypsies) who con their way into the All American Dream: Wealth, fabulous digs, great paying job, private school for the kids, country club membership ad infinitum. It all starts with an accident that the Riches were witnesses to, but didn't cause. The family takes on the identities of the accident victims, ditching the bodies in a pond. And from there, the wild ride begins.Eddie Izzard has some serious acting chops and is totally believable as Wayne/Doug, devoted husband to Dahlia/Cerien (played by Minnie Driver). As a dad, Izzard shows his commitment to his 3 kids, and also reveals his many flaws. He's truly fun to watch in this role. I had mixed feelings about Minnie Driver being cast as Dahlia/Cerien, but she quickly grows into the role as she grows on you. I can't imagine anyone else tackling this role. As a parolee at the beginning of the series, you see her struggle to come to terms with her good fortunes, while still feeling the pull of the Traveler life. The kids are superbly cast. The youngest, Sammy (played by Aidan Mitchell), is a cross-dresser and often appears as a girl. Hard to tell if the producers and writers would have eventually let Sammy come out as transgendered, but it could have happened. Supporting actors Margo Martindale as snoopy, ditzy, next-door neighbor Nina, and Greg Henry as Izzard's boss, Hugh Panetta, were also fun to watch. If you are moved to watch the two seasons (really a season and a half), just be prepared for the disappointment and let-down at the final episode. The seasons are still well-worth watching, and you won't regret it (heck, I've watched them 3 times now), but you will come away wanting more. It's very doubtful after 8 years that the show would be picked up again and continued. The original kids are adults now so the show couldn't pick up where it left off. But you sure want it to!

Unfinished but excellent.
I watched 1 1/2 season's since last night........now where's the rest? Did it stop because of the TV writer's srike? As I recall, there were some series that never resumed when it ended. Or was it positioned in a time slot that wastoo competitive and where it never stood a chance to develop a high enough ratings score?Whatever happened, it's too bad. I've been thoroughly obsorbed in the characters and plot of the 'The Riches'.The acting is excellent. The story line is deeper and more complex than most series -- definitely not reality TV nor superficial comedy. This shows deals with morality and the conflict within the human spirit between right and wrong. The push & pullof greed & self-interest, vs. one's conscience and inner need to be decent, honest. lawful -- ethical. After 7 yrs, I suppose it would be almost impossible to get the writers and actors all back together to resurrectthis series. Too bad.

Season 1 at least. It would be better if Season 2 were rewritten
Great concept which many of us will see being played out in our own lives. There is a great deal of quiet philosophy under the dialogue as well, I especially like S1 E12 (It's a Wonderful Lie) where Dahlia is explaining to Wayne that she does not want to be in the game if she has to lie to maintain the status they are enjoying. How many times I have had the same thoughts. Although the concept was a blockbuster, and Season 1 writing and directing was better than average for a new show, a new director and meandering story in Season 2 killed this one off. Right away in S2 E1, the dialogue becomes more annoying and the writers, I am sure, just did not know where to go with the theme. You may well expect to see it resurface in the future, as I am sure Eddie Izzard has his finger on the rights for this story.

Loved it… as far as it went… a modest proposal
So many loose ends and unresolved threads. I knew this was the case, but kept on watching because it was so addicting. How sad that it was never picked up and now, 8 years later, all the actors have aged so much.Maybe a short recap and resolution season could still happen… depending on the willingness of the cast. Or… Eddie Izzard said in an interview that he had ideas for a full 7 seasons. Maybe he could write a book! Or, last resort… maybe the fans could, as a group project, write a group authored piece resolving all the threads. For example, consider Sammy…When we last saw Sammy he was struggling with his gender identity and had made friends with a girl who seemed to really like him. So, flash forward to today. Sammy, now known as Sam (a gender neutral name) is finishing college with a degree in linguistics from Yale and is planning to marry his childhood sweetheart, Hannah, who is fine with his cross-dressing. He has been offered an officer's commission in the Army as a language expert. He and Hanna will decide soon whether Sam will transition and become Samantha. If he does, the Army will pay for his surgery. They plan to stay married no matter what, so if he does decide to transition, he will have some of his sperm frozen so they can eventually have children of their own.Anyone else want to pick up a thread?

What more could happen?
What more could happen to this poor family? That's what I keep asking myself. But yet you folks at FOX just keep dreaming it up and for that I say thank you. Every episode better than the last. Keeping me in suspence until the next great episode. To anybody who has not yet saw The Riches, What are you waiting for? It has everything tv has to offer for both male and female. Lies, sex, drugs, murder, lies. One great moment right after another. When you are not laughing then you are crying. I do suggest that you go back to season 1 and start with the Pilot episode or you might get confused. There is just so much going on with this family you might become lost if you don't, not to mention I would hate for you to miss all the great challenges this family is faced with. But be warned you Will become hooked like I am.

Excellent quality video. Very quickly delivered, ahead of time.
This is a fantastic series with great script, really well acted, and entertaining in an unusual way. Keeps you watching. A little like a comedy version of Breaking Bad. The CD's are packaged nicely in nicely designed separate season 1 and season 2 boxes. Great quality of sound and video. Delivery is very quick.Love it!

Quelle bonne série ... incomplète
Quelle bonne série! Cependant, elle a été retirée de la programmation. On ne peut qu'imaginer la fin. Série bien écrite et les comédiens sont excellents. À regarder en rafale avec la saison 1.

Too bad it got cancelled mid-season...
The second season picks up right where the first left off. It's tense, funny and tender. The acting is superb. It's really a shame that The Riches was cancelled.
