Well we learned our lesson - buying grass seed online is tricky! Grass mixes from manufacturers like Scott’s are tailored to particular climates, but unfortunately the label doesn’t tell you that. The label on Scott’s doesn’t even tell you which species are included. This particular mix we got from Amazon may have been more appropriate for southern climates. The areas treated developed dense low-profile turf resembling Bermuda grass and not the typical rye, bluegrass, fescue mix that works better in northern climates. One cold winter may kill it off and so we are having to rework those areas with a seed mix that works (and that we buy) locally.

and what can you say about a bag of grass seed until it's sown and either does or doesn't grow as claimed ?

After seeding a week later I saw good results, and by week two the grass really shot up. I had some sandy spotswhere grass was a little slower growing, but was impressed because i didn't think anything would grow in that soil.I would really recommend this product to anyone.

Grass looks great, needed something for shade and sun.
