Aquascape Blue Heron Decoy, Tall Garden Pond Bird Deterrent with Mounting Stake, 81030

We were surprised at how nice this decoy is. And so far, it's working at keeping the heron out of our pond. He came over a couple days ago. This isn't a great picture because hummingbird feeder is covering the real heron in the background a little bit, but you can see heron decoy beside pond and the real one never did come any closer to the pond or the decoy. One tip, my husband moves the decoy to different areas around pond so that the real bird thinks the decoy is alive. So maybe that's why it's working for us. I hope it continues to scare the real heron away.

I purchased this for a friend who made a huge pond in his backyard. I had purchased one for myself a while back and it was very "real" looking, durable and a nice addition to my pond and I wanted to spread the joy! Not to mention we are now saving fish in two ponds!

Mr. Decoy looks good but is about a foot smaller than the real bird, and as far as I can tell it’s working for scaring away the real bird. I have a small pond in my front yard that used to have 13 gold fish till a great big blue Herron started eating them! Herron got 4 all total. So after it got fish twice, 5 months apart I found this decoy and got one and was able to take the net corner off my pond ( the net cover is ugly and makes it difficult to see and feed fish) . Mr. Decoy worked pretty well for the Herron, I think, but something else got into pond and I don’t think it was the Herron because this time the heavy rocks over the pump were knocked off and pump tubing was knocked loose and pots with Lillie’s were knocked over and Lillie’s broken up. I’m thinking raccoon this time, I live across the street from the Willamette river in Oregon. So now I’ve ordered a motion activated ultrasonic frequency repeller. We’ll see if that works. Hopefully between Mr. Decoy and ultrasonic repeller I’ll be able to keep my last 6 fish.

Look good, and are being used successfully!

This isn’t a bad review. Just average. According to Amazon 3 stars is average product.It is cheap plastic which I knew before purchasing, so is fine.Semi realistic looking from a distance which is good.My problem is lack of stability. I purchased this one seeing it had a base at its feet. So I assumed I could place a brick or something to hold up right in wind. The base isn’t large enough to accomplish this.Comes with a stake that goes into his rear end (looking very odd) so can only be placed into dirt or it ends up lying on its side.To use this as a heron decoy, need to move his location every couple days. Needing “dirt location” greatly limits where he can be staked. If you don’t use the stake, he tips over very easily. The base (feet) are not large enough to place a brick or ?? On it to hold him in place on our brick around the pond nor on the wooden dock. Nor can he put put in the pond as ours is liner so can’t stake there either.None of this makes it a bad product, just something to be aware of before purchasing to make sure it will work for your own locations.If it were heavier/more stable to stand on its own, would of giving it more stars.

Doesn't work The heron I'm attempting to deter, lands and stares at this decoy while it eyes my koi.

This is totally working! Our pond is safe from the crane that was eating all the fish

We have a Koi Pond where our fish have been disappearing throughout the summer. We finally learned why the other day when we saw the giant Blue Heron walking in the pond hunting fish. I immediately purchased this decoy as it was meant to trick the bird not to land at our pond. Within hours of putting the decoy out the bird showed up again and started hunting. I tried it a few more days with no success. I give it 2 stars because it’s a really nice product. Well crafted and beautifully painted. But unfortunately it does not work.
