This book helped me arrive at the perfect "great room" furniture arrangement by looking at zones and traffic patterns.Think outside the box and look at function. Can't praise it enough and what a wonderful tool for both novice and experienced designers! Well worth the cost!

Fantastic book for home decorating
Need help arranging your furniture? You need this book. Unlike other books that only offer general tips, this one contains all the information you could ever need, such as circulation areas, clearances, layout ideas, types of furniture and much more. In the first chapter you even get instructions for measuring your space and sketching a good floor plan on scale (which is what professionals do for best results). The appendix also includes drawings of furniture that you can copy, cut out and play with. It's the kind of book that you will refer to time and again. It would also make a great gift for anyone who enjoys decorating.

Five Stars
A must-have book for design enthusiasts & a great source of information about measurments, functional zones, spaces between furniture, rules of thumb, floor plans with dimensions and much, much more!!This book helped me purchace the necessary furniture for the kids bedroom and the living room & arrive at the perfect floor plan arrangement. You don't even have to read the text because the images and illustrations are too explicative and easy to grasp with the dimensions both in metric and imperial written on them.Highly recommented and well worth the money!!

Best book ever
One of the best book I've ever had! As an architect, I found it 100% necessary! Don't miss it, get it know!

Almost exactly what I needed
This book is very useful as far as it goes. It has a great deal of information about required clearances between different bits of furniture, which is probably 90% of what I bought it for. You can tell it was written by an architect, as furniture arrangements are mostly considered in plan, with the emphasis on function and circulation, rather than aesthetic considerations. At one point, the author submits alternative plans for the same room, and asks 'which do tou think works best, and why?' I was rather hoping that the author would tell me which was best and why.I would have liked to see how different elevations worked, with some examination of proportions, why some arrangements simply look better than others, how to make a room look bigger, lighter, etc, but maybe I need a different book for this. There was the odd omission; nothing is said about the optimum height for a bedside table, for instance, although the heights of end tables are discussed. Some very odd terminology is used for furniture, but maybe these were American. Not completely comprehensive, but certainly useful and a worthwhile buy.
