Very sturdy units. Using them for fabric bolts..
I'm a 59 year old woman and I put these units up by myself.. The bottom half is a snap (literally) to put together.. The top half takes a bit of practice, and patience, but it's doable and once you get it together, it is one stable, solid unit...Someone added closeup pictures of the top and bottom side poles attached.. That's exactly how it goes.. You use the shelve bracket to attach the top pole to the bottom pole.. It is kind of tricky. I had more than one of them come loose and fall on my head while trying to get all four attached.. but be patient and you'll get it together. When I first started attaching the top and bottom poles, I thought, there is no way this is going to stay together... but it does.. Once you get all the shelves attached, it really is super sturdy.. I did try moving one unit after I'd put it all together, and some of the shelve brackets popped loose..All I had to do was use the rubber mallet to pound them back into place, but also, I was trying to move it on carpet.. I would guess if you try to move these around on a smooth floor like a garage cement floor, they would slide easily.I purchased 3 of these to hold fabric bolts in my sewing room.. Fabric can be amazingly heavy.. I had put up wood shelves years ago, but have added so much fabric, they just weren't doing the job any more and it was hard to keep my fabric organized. I've lined one whole wall with these units and still have room for more fabric.. Couldn't be happier! You can adjust the shelves where you want them to go, spacing them out as needed.. I put the bottom shelf up about 13" off the floor so I can slide plastic craft totes under them... I really liked that I could adjust everything the way I want it...I'm still working on the room, but once it's done, I'll post pictures of them.. They really do hold an amazing amount..

Very Nice, Easy to Assemble
I am a 5' tall woman, and I assembled the bottom half of the unit in about 20 minutes with two interruptions--one from the family dog and one from my husband. I spent the next 20 minutes trying to put the top half of the shelf on the wrong way--by overlapping the posts. DO NOT OVERLAP THE POSTS!! When I finally decided to read the directions, I realized that the posts are placed one directly on top of the other and the rivets beams and the braces hold them together. Place the beam/brace so that one rivet goes in the bottom post and one goes in the top post. When I figured that out, it took me another 15 minutes to finish assembling the shelf. I did not have a rubber mallet handy so I used a block of wood to tap the beams and braces into position. This unit should not take more than 30 minutes for even a novice like me to put together. But, read the instructions first, and have all materials sorted and within easy reach. I am a re-seller of RADA cutlery and I bought the shelf to store my inventory on. It works great. I have my items in plastic stackable trays on three of the shelves. I have boxed sets on another self, and I put two collapsible carrying cases on the top along with my tablecloths and banners. I love it. I cannot attest that the unit will hold 4000 pounds, but it certainly works for my purposes. I intend to buy two more to use in my wood shop--one to store scrap pieces on and the other as a "drying rack" for small finished items. My unit sits level so I did not have to put any cardboard levelers underneath. I am very happy with my purchase; it was a great price too!

These shelves, if properly put together, can hold a lot of weight
Someone said that a 12 year old kid could put these shelves together... well, maybe, but only a child with engineering/mechanical skills.I ordered two of these Edsal UR18P/L-BLK units. One arrived in near perfect condition, with only some paint scrapped off. The other unit had been dropped at least once somewhere along the way to my place, and some of the riveted ends were bent, and paint was chipped and scrapped off here and there. I found that the bent beams were not a problem though. Fortunately, they were not so bent out of shape that they could not be used as they were. All pieces were present and accounted for, for both units. In the end, small defects are only slightly noticeable, and since this is utility shelving, and not a fancy bookcase for my book collection, I am not going to complain about this.Prose: The steel beams are thick and durable. These shelves, if properly put together, can hold a lot of weight.Cons: Constructing these shelving units takes some patience. Although not impossible to construct by yourself, an extra set of hands to keep things aligned would have come in handy, at times. The joint where the bottom section meets the top section is the weakest point of this products' design. Earlier versions of these shelves seem to have had a baldy designed clamp to hold the two halves of the shelving together, but the newer shelving units did away with those. Instead, you seat the corner beams directly on top of each other, and add a shelf between the two sections, with the shelf's bottom hols holding the bottom beams in place, and the top holes holding the top beams in place. This works, but you have to be careful to MAKE SURE that the top beams are sitting ON THE TOP of the bottom beams. DO NOT let the top beams slip off and slide down. Even if they top beams only slide a little, it will dramatically weaken the structure of these shelves. You do have to look carefully, and feel the fit, to make sure that no slipping has taken place. Once the beams and shelf are firmly in place, using a rubber mallet, and you continue construction, the shelf becomes more sturdy. The end results is utility shelving that is strong and sturdy enough to hold all of the content I planned for these shelves.Do make sure to use a rubber mallet on each corner when you are adding the shelving, to make sure everything is set firmly in place. Sometimes it may look well seated, but it is not.Although a pain to put together, alone, this is doable, and well worth the effort if you need strong, sturdy, shelving, as I did. The second unit went together much faster than the first.Another con, the stink of particle board. I would much rather that the shelving plants were maid of a light, strong, durable, plastic, or some other non-odorous material. Right now, my entire apartment smells like new particle board, and I am finding that this is aggravating my breathing issues.MACJR
