The New American Herbal: An Herb Gardening Book

The descriptive passages are additions to the history and folklore of the listed herbs which include a world wide compilation. Some are common and others are lesser known. Recounted alphabetically, herbs are accompanied by a photo some of which are accurate while others are out of focus or view an inadequate portion of the plant for good identification.

What I like about this book is that it gives you a brief excerpt about how to grow each herb. Maybe you've had better luck than me, but I haven't found any other book that does that. I'll grant you, this is not the best book if you're interested in the healing properties of herbs. But most of the "best books" on the healing properties never really tell you how to grow the damn plants.Warning though, this isn't an in-depth growing guide. It tells you what an experienced gardener needs to know. If you've never gardened before or have no intention of gardening there are probably other places to start looking.

This Herbal book is a must have in any home if you want to keep your family healthy. It is packed with priceless information. I contracted a flu and decided to make a herbal decoction and begin a tincture. All I needed was included. There is a list of herbal plants as well which when you click on a specific plant it brings up detailed information as a quick reference.

I can't wait for this spring to turn one of my raised beds into a herb garden!

This has become my favorite herb book. I really liked the author's style, the unique recipes and growing info. Will reference it often.

This book includes an extensive list of herbs, however I wish there was more information for the herbs. For my purposes the plant profiles were too brief and far fewer recipes than I expected.

Purchased for the library of University of Illinois Coles County Master Gardeners and on a brief review found it very informative with wonderful illustrations.

Really well designed and illustrated book.
