Great book, if not exactly accurate ..
Great writer... must say that to start. She writes smartly and smoothly which engages the reader to want to read more. And most of the book is accurate and the writer doesn't claim that it's exactly what Mary. Queen of Scots thought or believed. So if you go into reading it with the idea that she's taking great liberties in describing moments and conversations as she believes they could have occurred, you'll greatly enjoy the story, as I did. But if you are expecting the most accurate of recordings of the life and thoughts of the young queen, then you'll be disappointed. But as this is correctly advertised as a fictional account of the early life of one of the most fascinating historical figures ever, read it, enjoy it, as I did. Just do so with the notion that this is a beautifully crafted POSSIBLE version of events that nobody can truly actually know, but is a lovely and believable version based on historical notes and letters and people's versions of events that happened centuries ago. But, as I said, this is a lovely fictional version of what Mary, Queen of Scots, one of my personal favorite historical figures, may have thought about her early life. It is very well written and was enjoyable to read.

A Dark Time in History
Carolyn Meyer's portrayal of Mary Queen of Scots in "The Wild Queen" is a remarkable work of historical fiction. This book digs deep into the thoughts and personality of Mary and her futile struggle to claim the English throne from her "sister" Queen Elizabeth I. Her story is so sad. She became Queen of Scotland as an infant, Queen of France by marriage, and she coveted the title of Queen of England. However, she ended up on the executioner's block. A dark time in history. Highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book about Mary Queen of Scots
I thoroughly enjoyed this book about Mary Queen of Scots, and it spurred me on to read other accounts of her life. The Wild Queen does take liberties with the relationships of the people in the book, but it is not advertised as historically accurate so read and enjoy!!! Shawnee

A Good Overview of Mary's Life
This book definitely made me interested in learning more about Mary Queen of Scots. Most everything I have read about her has been from the Tudor perspective, and it was interesting to learn more about her life. Although this is a YA book, it is definitely mature and more appropriate for older teens.

A Nice Bit of Speculative Historical Fiction
The story is evenly paced though a bit slower than my typical reads. The historical components are accurate (to my knowledge) and the fictionalized portions and consistent in characterisation. It takes the stance of Mary's innocence, though paints it with a bit too broad a brush. Over all an enjoyable read.

To each his own
Very weird. Almost couldn't read it but I am a reader and was out of suggestions so I tried it. Just not my style.

A good read.
Very enjoyable. I missed the other characters that played a part in the life of Mary's captivity. I will recommend this book to several of my friends. Entertaining and a good read.
