'For about a year now driving to work, when the news on MORNING EDITION or ALL THINGS CONSIDERED gets to be just too much, I pop a CD into the player and get cheerful. The singer is Connie Evingson. The album is 'Sweet Happy Life'. - Susan Stamberg, NPR Weekend Edition Sunday.

Terrific!
I've enjoyed Connie's album of Dave Frishberg's songs for some time now and thought it would be good to have another one. I hesitated for a minute because I am familiar with all the songs on this album and wondered whether it was worth having more recordings of them. I'm glad I decided to buy it. I'd never realised how wonderful a lyricist Norman Gimbel was and I think that's down to an exceptional singer showing these lyrics at their best. Connie Evingson does languid better than Diana Krall, cute better than Astrud Gilberto and is an outstanding musician. On top of that, the band is superb, beautifully recorded and Connie swings like very few singers I've heard. Her recordings of some of these songs have instantly become the definitive version for me. If you're only downloading a couple of these, I'd recommend 'Bluesette' and 'Tristeza', but go on, get the lot. you won't regret it.
